I have to wear 'old guy' cheaters looking at a monitor using TrackIR, but in VR I can shuck the readers and just wear the headset.

HW: i7-12700K, 32 GB RAM, MB PRO Z690-A DDR4 , GTX 3080, LCD UltraWQHD (3440x1440) G-SYNC 120Hz,Tobii Eye Tracker 5, VKB Gunfighter III (KG12 WWII), MFG Crosswind, AuthentiKit Throttle & Trims, Windows 11 64-bit

Distant viewing glasses works better inside headset. Though cockpit is a tiny less sharp for me, it is still very good readable. But the scene rendered oustide the cockpit is much more clearer now and I can see planes better too. So for VR, glasses for distant viewing are definitely the right solution.

I tested glasses I use for reading (ie glasses for hyperopia) with Rift S and it improves my VR vision. I thought it is the right solution, because VR headset use small LCD positioned close to the eyes .

ps: if you have binoculars - test the adjustment you have to make in them for distant viewing by first wearing a distant prescription and then using a readers prescription. :) The VR headset does not have the function of changing focal length like a pair of binoculars. It is fixed for distant viewing and therefore you need to make the adjustment within your own prescription for distant vision. The same with having a diopter adjustment created for an advanced camera.

But you talk about Rift S being set for distant vision. Does it mean I need to use for VR glasses improving my shortsightednes (myopy) instead?

I am using widmovr lenses with blue filter option. Fits really nicely on the Rift S (https://widmovr.com/product/rift-s-prescription-lens-adapters/). They are manufactured in Poland and it takes a few weeks to receive them but overall they are doing perfectly their job. I used the same provider for my older Rift lenses.

I just ordered lens inserts so I don't have to wear glasses. The prescription I used for those lenses is for distant vision only both eyes. Anything less than distant vision will not focus correctly on the image created by the headset. The image is created for distance vision. (for the average person). If you choose a near-sighted lens, you will be focussing on the screen only. The pixels if you will and you should be looking through the screen (not at it) towards the distance. Use the zoom feature in the sim if you want to be a bit closer to the gauges.

I am slightly shortsighted (myopy = bad vision of distant objects) as well as slightly farsighted (hyperopia = bad vision of near objects). So I use two separate glasses.

The lens correction you should be using is the one that adjusts your vision for distant vision. My one eye is near sighted and the other is far sighted. My prescription is set for distant vision default for both eyes.

I use progressive lenses in everyday life. I have readers for reading also. But for outdoor sports, motorcycling, I have sunglasses set for distant vision and also for watching TV. (without the tint).

I love the inserts I have, which were purchased for the Oculus Go for about $80 but work perfectly for the S (I own both). Frames direct. I'm sure VR-lens.com will also be good.

Basically, in it’s simplest terms, Bitrex test kits help to ascertain whether a mask fits the wearer. The main component is Detonium Benzoate. Bitrex is the most bitter chemical compound known. The face fit testing process uses this bitter taste. However, it is more commonly used on children’s toys and nail biting solution to stop them from being chewed.

I had some from VROpticians for the CV-1 and I have them for the Rift S. They are much better in the S in that they pop on easily and STAY there! A 'must have' i my book.

If you haven't bought lenses yet look at VR Opticians instead of Lens Lab. Lens Lab only offers a goggle type lens (at this time) with a strap you wear on your head. VR Opticians has an actual lens insert which snaps over the Rift S lenses. I have them and they work great.

Question: I think lens insert are better solution then glasses. Unfortunatelly my doughter play with the headset too (and she do not need glasses) so I would have to frequently put the lenses on/off. What is your opinion - is frequent changing of the insert lens possible or not recommended?

Thanks to all for your reply's insight and info I will report back later I'm ordering them from VR-Lens.com for about $118 US this week for my Rift-S.. "I can live with that"

Just ruined a new pair of glasses  I scratched the friggin tint off them had to replace them.. So looks like this is my best option also I have bifocals does that matter in VR?

The bitter qualitative test kits rely on the use of this solution. Qualitative face fit tests are simple taste tests. They test the fit of disposable and reusable half mask respirators. We sell the test kits to anyone attending one of our face fit train the tester courses. However, there is a small proportion of the population who cannot taste the bitter solution. In this instance, we recommend using Saccharin (a sweet solution) to test the mask.

The SIM has an image in the cockpit similar to RL. So the front panel gauges may be a little close for you (and me) as they are not at full distance corrected vision for us. More like mid/long range. But . . . . . zoom view works great for when looking at them and also you can change the FOV within the sim for better perspective.

What is Bitrex? Generally in our industry we use it as part of the qualitative face fit testing process. A standard qualitative face fit test kit contains the bitter solution. There is usually a bottle of sensitivity solution and a bottle of test solution in each kit. Previously the solution was stored in smaller bottles (ampoules). Some kits still have ampoules in them.
