PhaZZer has taken the additional precaution of drawing design guidance from the safety standards of various government agencies and first responders, including the DOJ, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM), the American Heart Association (AHA), Department of Corrections (DOC), and various other medical studies related to preventing death or serious injury by overexposure.

The PhaZZer FORCE™ was specifically created at the request of the Department of Corrections for use by guards in detention facilities. It is outfitted with a 4 ½-foot retractable circuit disconnect ripcord that deactivates the weapon in the event that the user loses control of it. Its patented Safety Shut Down Circuit Technology™ also prevents needless injury by automatically disabling the system after three consecutive five-second discharges have been fired from the gun.

In general, conducted energy devices (CEDs) like police stun guns and taser devices have been proven to be extremely effective, reliable, and safe personal protection devices. A study published by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) found that “The potential for moderate or severe injury related to CED exposure is low. Based on published studies, significant injury has been noted in less than 0.5 percent of those experiencing a CED exposure and has been estimated not to exceed 0.7 percent” (Study of Deaths Following Electro Muscular Disruption, May 2011).
