This may not be a streamer’s top choice. Nor is it great for business calls. However, it’s a quality pick for anyone on a budget.

It might be expensive, but this is simply one of the smartest and most feature-rich webcams money can buy right now. The compact design is travel-friendly, too!

❌ You need a cheap webcam: While its $199 price tag isn't the highest on this list, it's still a very expensive professional-standard webcam. ❌ You're only a casual webcam user: The Razer Kiyo Pro is a lot of webcam, and users who are only looking for semi-regular video conferencing just don't need this level of power.

Fiber-optic spectrometers offer a tremendous value proposition for UV/VIS measurements because of their relatively low cost, small size and ability to be introduced in harsh environments through the fiber interface. From visible light to near-infrared, that’s where the AvaLight-HAL-S-Mini works best. The AvaLight-HAL-S-Mini is a compact, stabilized halogen light source with adjustable focusing of the fibre connection, maximizing output power at the desired wavelength. This versatile light source also has adjustable output power to provide extra power or longer bulb life.

This FOS is operated electronically via TTL signals from an external source or one of our AvaSpec spectrometers. TTL signals can be provided either by an external device or by an AvaSpec spectrometer connected via an interface cable (IC-DB-xxx, see ordering information below).Â

Though it has been around for a few decades, nowadays DOAS is performed by recording two absorption spectra, one as a reference scan through a column of atmosphere (ideally) free of contaminants and one through an identical pathlength containing the contaminant that needs to be analyzed. The light traveling through the measured atmosphere is partially absorbed by trace contaminants along the way following Lambert Beer’s Law of Absorption.

The FOS is coupled in the optical paths between SMA-terminated fibres and features four COL-UV/VIS collimating lenses (UV/VIS/NIR).Â

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a type of atomic emission spectroscopy that employs a laser to ablate or vaporize a microscopic layer of a sample’s surface. The resultant plasma caused by this laser ablation process emits light as it cools. This light is then collected and analyzed with a spectrometer for quantitative and qualitative material analysis.

The NIRLine is comprised of both thermoelectrically cooled and uncooled instruments. The AvaSpec-NIR256/512-1.7 features an uncooled 256 or 512 pixel InGaAs detector. All other instruments in the NIRLine have thermoelectric, peltier-cooled InGaAs detectors which support cooling down to -25°C against ambient.

For instance, a top-end webcam would be ideal for a home office setup, while those wanting an all-in-one solution should consider an option that features an array of internal microphones (called beam microphones) that pick up noise from each direction for better clarity. There's also the choice between full HD and 4K, and whether HDR is important for you.

❌ You need a budget webcam: With a price tag of $300, this sits among the most expensive webcams on this list.❌ You don’t want AI in your webcam: If artificial intelligence makes you nervous, you should avoid the Insta360 Link - it's highly reliant on AI for tracking, autofocus, and the nifty gesture controls.

A cheap 1080p/30fps webcam from Amazon or eBay may disappoint you if the drivers and sensors are not up to the same standards as trusted products on our list, so don't take the resolution and framerate as gospel that you'll be getting great video quality. As the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Even the most expensive webcam can look terrible if you don't take your environment into consideration. Lighting can make a cheap 720p webcam look almost HD, and this doesn't have to make a dent in your wallet. Natural lighting is prized by photographers for being better than most expensive studio lights, so where possible try and record in front of a window. This will not only illuminate your features and make you pop against your background, but it'll illuminate background 'noise' – the fuzzy static effect seen when webcams are trying to film in low lighting conditions. You can also replicate this using studio lights if you work in darker environments away from a window. You can also use cheap desk lamps in a pinch by directing them against a wall to reduce the harshing lighting and create a diffused appearance. Always make sure your background looks nice. This doesn't mean you need to do anything fancy (unless you're a streamer and have the budget for some fancy LED lights and gamer swag), but you need to make sure you're the focus of the broadcast. Tidy up any mess, don't sit behind an open door and make sure you don't sit behind any other light sources. This will usually throw off the light sensors in your webcam and reduce your film quality.

The PS-12V has a maximum output of 1.0A and is used with all AvaSpec spectrometers and most light sources and accessories. The PS-24V is to be used with the AvaLight-HAL halogen light source and the FOS-inline fibre-optic switch.

The AvaLight-HAL-CAL-Mini is a compact, affordable light source. It is calibrated for the visible range (350-1095 nm). Optionally, an extended calibration for the near-infrared spectral range (1100 – 2500 nm) can be ordered. It has a built-in diffuser, a cosine corrector with SMA adapter and comes with a calibration file in ASCII format. Calibration can be done using the AvaSoft software.

When the object or material you want to measure is more transparent, for instance a filter, glass or fluid, the amount of reflected light is too low to perform a reflection measurement. For (mostly) transparent materials, transmission spectroscopy is the best choice, since it measures the light that passes through the material in comparison to the emitted light, instead of light that reflects from it.

AvaSpec optical benches are available with or without one of our electronics boards for integration into customers’ systems. In our tests, we found it provided extremely good raw footage with great color balance. When we reviewed it, we found the Kiyo Pro's picture quality to be incredible. Its light detection is especially good, while its dynamic range is wide and noise handling is excellent, which makes this a particularly great webcam if you're streaming in low-light conditions. You can choose between three different fields of view for wider shots as well, and select either a smooth 1080p 60fps option for gameplay or a high-res HDR mode for improved video quality during Zoom sessions.

The StreamCam is a notably feature-rich 1080p webcam, offering a plethora of useful tools for content creators. From smart exposure and autofocus to facial tracking and an option 60fps mode, there are very few features this webcam lacks. It even has a flippable design that lets you record in a 9:16 smartphone-friendly format, and can be mounted on a tripod too.

The AvaLight-DH-S is a powerful deuterium halogen source, but, like any unbalanced deuterium halogen source, it does have a very dominant alpha peak at 656 nm. This is why Avantes developed the DH-S-BAL, in which this peak is drastically reduced by a dichroic filter. This means less power, but an increase in the dynamic range of a factor 20. A comparison spectrum as taken with a standard AvaSpec-2048 is shown on the next page.

The AvaSpec StarLine instruments are fully integrated with Avantes’ modular platform, allowing them to function as both standalone and multi-channel instruments. For working professionals or office staff, most conference calling software such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams will restrict your broadcast quality to 1080p resolution and 30fps to preserve bandwidth.
