Methane is the main component of natural gas, which is now the main gas used in energy production. Nevertheless, it is also possible to produce methane in a renewable way through the fermentation of organic waste: biomethane.

This gas is present in its natural state. It is produced as a result of fermentation or digestion by living organisms, particularly in wetlands. However, 60% of global methane is now produced by humans. The main anthropic sources are: rice growing, farming, landfill and the production of energy (gas, oil, coal). This is the gas that produces the second highest amount of greenhouse gas emissions. This is why Teréga is committed to reducing methane emissions in the gas sector.
