The term ‘tungsten light’ refers to the most common kind of incandescent lightbulb used to provide artificial light to indoor areas such as your home or office. tungsten lights feature a tungsten filament housed within an inert gas, when a current is passed through the filament, the naturally high resistance of tungsten causes the filament to glow and output an orange light. The color temperature of a tungsten light is around 3200K, failure to address this in your camera’s white balance settings will result in images with a high color temperature, and an overall orange hue.

There were several things that we liked about World of Illumination. First, the lights were thick, and the bulbs were big. This really makes the lights pop. As you drive back and forth, the lanes are narrow so you really get the feeling that you are right in the show. Finally, the lights are higher up. There are multiple tunnels and displays that cross the road, so you feel surrounded by lights throughout the entire drive. We’ve never really seen a show that makes you feel that you are right in the lights like World of Illumination does.

It is cheaper to visit on weekdays and before the middle of December, so if you can make that work you can save some money. In 2023, they had tickets at Costco for $35 and they were any day tickets, so keep an eye out this year for that deal. This is the best deal that I have seen. World of Illumination is a light show in the Salt Lake Valley. This event is held at the Utah State Fairpark and runs during the holidays. The cost to drive through the light show is a little higher than some of the other popular light drives, but we found the cost to be worth it. World of Illumination was definitely a new favorite.

The drive through World of Illumination is quite long, and the music is very well timed to the dancing lights. We also liked the uniqueness of the displays. Spinning snowman, dancing candy canes, and many other fun displays that fit the theme make this a fun drive-through light show. We are excited this has become an annual Christmas light show here in Utah.

World of Illumination puts on Christmas light shows throughout the United States. Each show is based on a different theme. Salt Lake City’s theme is Reindeer Road in 2024 (It was Arctic Adventure in 2022 and Candy Rush in 2023), so all of the lights are based on the theme. There are arctic animals like polar bears, penguins, seals, and more. And this year (2023) everything is about candy. You can see a mix of pictures from the last few years.

Another thing we like about this drive-thru is that the lights are set on a dark backdrop. We felt that this made the lights extra bright and fun. Usually lights are standing alone, but on the dark background, the lights standout no matter the weather and time of day.
