If you are a domestic customer you want one installed so that water from your kitchen sink especially is filtered before flowing into your septic tank and will often be specified by your local water authority as a requirement.
This is because trade waste is a specialist field and there are many local authority regulations that come into play when choosing the right Grease Trap, also known as a Grease Interceptor in some states of Australia.
If you require a Hydraulic Design we can help and liaise with Council until approved saving you time and hassles. Once you know your allowed Grease Trap size we can quote the supply of the correct size quality manufactured Grease Trap that will provide many years of trouble-free service and we ship these Australia wide. In South East Queensland we can also install your Grease Trap so we can provide a full turnkey service from design to supply and installation.
For commercial uses such as food production facilities, cafes, restaurants, takeaway venues, bars and mechanics a Grease Trap will definitely be required by your Local Water Authority or Council. The rules differ from state to state around Australia but you will find that there is a minimum size requirement depending on the amount of wastewater you are producing calculated from the number of sinks, dishwashers, combi ovens, bain maries, floor wastes and other equipment you use.
Often a Hydraulic Design is required by your Authority before you can know the size of Grease Trap that is allowed and must be approved before purchasing your Grease Interceptor or commencing any plumbing works.
As Trade Waste and Commercial Plumber Specialists with over 20 years of experience, we are able to provide you with the right advice for your specific circumstances. We have a vast knowledge of most of the Local Authority requirements and also what works practically from the plumbing installation viewpoint having installed thousands of Grease Traps over the years.
Whilst Bunnings sell a great variety of items including general plumbing items they do not sell Grease Traps from either a 45 Litre domestic Grease Trap or any size Grease Interceptor for commercial use.
A Grease Trap is installed so that wastewater from domestic or commercial use flows through the Grease Trap where fats, oils, grease, food waste, hair and other contaminants are captured inside the Grease Interceptor and the filtered water is allowed to continue into the sewerage system.

You can contact your Local Water Authority or Council Here to find out your regulations and what the minimum size is for your area.
Also besides the small 45 Litre Everhard Domestic Grease Trap, Bunnings would not have room to stock them in-store with some Grease Traps being the size of a small car!
As previously mentioned, the size is determined by the amount of wastewater your business generates during day-to-day operations. Other factors such as distance and location of your Grease Trap will determine if you can install an above or below ground grease trap and in some States, if you can install a pump to assist gravity in moving the water through your Grease Trap.
As you can now see, Bunnings wouldn’t be able to stock Grease Traps or provide the right specialist advice to their customers for sizing or installation of a Grease Trap.
If you install an undersized Grease Trap or a non-compliant cheap Grease Trap that is not compliant you run the risk of your Authority shutting down your business and making you install the correct sized Grease Trap and possibly facing fines. Not only is this a huge costly inconvenience and interruption to your business but it will cost you twice to remove the incorrect Grease Trap and install a new one.
