The Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Series is a new design series that revealed a fresh and powerful expression of Japanese artistry. This series captured the simplicity and refinement of traditional Japanese aesthetics in its delicately textured dial and gave it a modern edge with its sharp and angular case construction.

The dial incorporates a Japanese Asanoha or hemp leaf pattern, familiar in Japanese culture for its use in design since the Heian period over a thousand years ago. The fibres that make up the plant's stem were traditionally used to make fabrics and the leaf pattern holds a special importance in Japanese culture as it symbolises rapid, strong growth and was thought to bring good health, especially to the young. The rich texture and intricacy of the dial's sharply edged geometric pattern create a subtle colour gradation as they play with the light at different angles.

The Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Series case and bracelet incorporate many flat surfaces that have a modern sharpness that allows the watch to shine and sparkle from every angle. The precisely engineered and polished surfaces and the crisp edges of its silhouette contrast with the subtle hairline finish to create a pleasingly multi-dimensional effect.

Seiko Boutique exclusive model has dial colour of Hihada-iro, a reddish-brown colour first derived from the bark of the Japanese cypress tree.

All four watches are powered by the eight beat-per-second GMT Caliber 6R64. The GMT hand on each is in a different colour to stand out clearly from each dial and, like the hands and indexes, has a generous layer of Lumibrite, to ensure legibility. The GMT hand can also be used as a dual time indicator, with the hour hand being adjustable even as the minute and seconds hands continue to mark time. The dial rings are in two colours to separate the night and day hours at a glance. The date is shown on a sub-dial at the six o’clock position and there is a power reserve indicator at nine o’clock.

With its sharp and angular silhouette, the case is light and comfortable to wear. The slim, carefully polished case surfaces and bracelet assert a modern presence. The watches are all powered by the 24 jewel Calibre 6R35 which delivers a power reserve of 70 hours. The glass material is sapphire crystal, and the exhibition case back, also in sapphire, reveals the delicate finishing of the movement.

Each watch offers a dial with a different traditional Japanese colour; Shironeri, an unbleached silky white, Aitetsu, or indigo iron, Tokiwa, the colour of evergreen trees and Susutake, a brown-toned smoked bamboo. In addition, Sumi-iro, the tone of black Japanese ink, Ebi-iro, the colour of crimson glory vines, Binroujikuro, an elegant black colour with a hint of blue, and Suzu-iro, light gray, join the collection.
