A 45-second video of the incident, filmed by the victim’s brother Saturday and posted online, shows the unidentified officer from the Reform Police Department standing over 24-year-old Micah Washington with a stun gun pressed against his back as he was handcuffed and leaning on the hood of the officer’s car on Dec. 2.

No reasonable person would have thought violence was imminent because Nowland’s speed meant it took her a minute to shuffle forward a metre before she was shot, Hatfield said.

“What the accused said before he fired the Taser was completely inconsistent with it being to prevent an imminent violent confrontation,” he said.

At a rally for Washington on Monday, his mother, Toris, urged Black mothers to have conversations with their sons about “situations like this,” according to ABC 33/40 in Birmingham.

The officer has been accused of manslaughter through criminal negligence and by committing an unlawful and dangerous act.

The officer also made a “complete about-face” when asked about the precise point in time he was prepared to fire the weapon and whether he thought the aged-care resident was going to act with superhuman strength, the jury heard.

An Alabama police department has placed an officer on administrative leave after she was filmed using a stun gun on a man who was already handcuffed.

A police officer would only have shot a 95-year-old woman with a Taser gun if it was lawful and would not have lied about it, a jury has been told.

“It feels pretty different when you’re there, it feels pretty different when Mrs Nowland is the one who locks eyes with you,” he said.

The defence barrister, Troy Edwards SC, asked the jury on Tuesday to consider that his client had a good character with no prior criminal offences when considering its verdict.

“What you saying ‘Oh, yeah’ for?’” he asks. The officer then fires her stun gun into his back repeatedly and tells him to “shut the fuck up.”

Washington’s girlfriend, Jalexis Rice, said the officer stopped while Washington and two others were changing a tire, according to WVTM-TV in Birmingham.

Footage of the incident taken from a nursing home’s CCTV and police bodyworn cameras has been shown at a New South Wales supreme court manslaughter trial for Sen Const Kristian White.

The prosecutor targeted White’s credibility, saying he refused to answer straightforward questions about whether Nowland looked frail or moved slowly.

Before being shot, the 95-year-old had been asked 20 times to stop or be seated and 21 times to drop or put down the knife, Edwards said.
