Among Webre's concerns are the possibility of videos getting into a third party's possession and the fact that body cameras are manually activated. He said the Sheriff's Office's stun gun cameras begin recording when the weapons are powered on, and dashboard cameras are automatically activated with patrol cars' lights or sirens.

Larpenter said storage constitutes most of the expenses for body cameras. Subscription plans for departments that upload videos to Taser's Evidence website range from $15 to $55 a month per user, but the cost could rise depending on how much video data is stored.
