Welcome to the Fundamentals of Optics learning track, presented by Zemax and Edmund Optics. The impact and reach of optical systems are growing, and they have a place in many exciting industries and applications. Autonomous vehicles, medical imaging devices, and augmented and virtual reality devices are just a few of the innovations made possible with optical systems. The Fundamentals of Optics learning track is designed for professionals in scientific fields who need to work with optical systems. The course material does not assume any prior knowledge in the field of optics. After completing this learning track, you will be able to: Define the basic properties of light and how it interacts with other objects. Interpret simple ray diagrams. Define optical system requirements and describe how they affect system performance. Identify factors limiting optical performance. State the optical aberrations and their effects on real systems. List sources of error in manufacturing and assembly and describe how they can affect system performance.

History ofoptics

We will be looking at optical specifications in this Ansys lesson. You will learn the key specifications for an optical system and understand how you can meet them during the design process.

In this course, you will be introduced to the subject of optics. We will discuss fundamental definitions, basic properties of light, and general manufacturing and design considerations on a brief level. Finally, you will be introduced to ray tracing.
