A preform is an intermediate product that is subsequently blown into a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) container. Preforms vary in neck finish, weight, colour and shape, and are specifically designed to meet the needs of customers in different market segments.

RETAL’s offer also include other specialized and custom neck finishes in various weight ranges. e.g. “34/29 and 28mm double-start” and 17-63 mm

Preforms are manufactured from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), so they are called PET preforms. They are produced by RETAL using a highly-accurate injection molding process on equipment from the leading world vendors.

Backlighting provides an area of uniform illumination, oriented behind the object of interest, primarily for creating a part silhouette of instant contrast between dark and light.  It is most useful for edge detection, part location/orientation or presence/absence, hole detection and object gauging. Linear Backlights can also be deployed behind a moving web of material when used in conjunction with line scan cameras, when intensities are enough to freeze motion.

In addition to preforms for retail packaging, we manufacture preforms weighing 260-485 g for large PET containers with volumes of 10-25 liters, which are primarily used in the food and non-food segments.

Preform weight depends on the end container’s desired volume. Preforms can be single-layer or multilayer. Barrier preforms provide additional benefits and increased beverage shelf life, thanks to a special layer embedded in several layers of polyethylene terephthalate.
