Mistakes happen on any jobsite. But when you’re dealing with commercial and industrial power systems, the stakes are as high. Remove the element of human error from the equation and rely on your safety devices to make sure that your inspection results remain consistent and your technicians return home safely every night.

Our philosophy is to sell only natural, whole leaf tobacco products that are never altered, enhanced, or changed in any way. Tobacco has been an American tradition since 1612, when John Rolfe harvested the first crop of commercial tobacco on American soil.

Our team of engineers, millwrights, and technicians are equipped with the experience, knowledge, and equipment needed to convert your high voltage equipment from panel- and door-access only to IR ready.

There are many ways in which tobacco can be cured and prepared, and understanding the differences between each method can help you determine which you prefer to enjoy. The characteristics of sun cured tobacco are unique, though the process may seem relatively similar to air-cured tobacco. Both curing types rely on natural climatic conditions as opposed to artificial heat, but instead of the tobacco leaves being air-dried or cured in barns, sun-cured tobacco is exposed to direct sunlight. One example of sun cured tobacco at Total Leaf Supply is our Oriental Basma tobacco leaves.

Most sun-cured tobacco comes from both Asian and Mediterranean countries where there is little rain and an abundance of sunny days. Some of the characteristics of sun cured tobacco include a lower nicotine level compared to other curing methods, yellow and orange natural colors, as well as a higher sugar content. The sun really dries out the leaves leaving little moisture behind, and as a result, sun-cured tobacco leaves are often much lighter than other types and are excellent for blending.

The PPE needed to protect against arc flash is uncomfortable, restrictive, and time-consuming to put on. Add to that the time spent waiting for permissions to open energized equipment and waiting for key personnel to arrive on site, and your per-unit inspection costs can rise rapidly. Make these steps redundant and your IR program will be less expensive and more productive, giving you the insights you need to manage your power system reliability and freeing you up for doing what you do best: running your operation.

To the trained palate, flavor characteristics of sun cured tobacco include spicy, sweet, and even traces of nuts. They offer a more herbal character with a taste that can resemble cardamom, lemongrass, and cashew. Due to the lower nicotine content, sun-cured tobacco provides an excellent way to enhance flavors as part of a blend without increasing the potency of the finished product.

Every IR window we install is selected for the specific application of the equipment on which it will be fitted. We can help you decide on which best suits the units you have based on criticality and the frequency and preferred methods of your equipment inspections.

Inspecting electrical substations can be dangerous. Even non-contact inspection methods such as infrared thermography pose risks for technicians. Arc flashes can happen when transformer doors or breaker and switchgear panels are opened, and injuries sustained from the burns and the percussive injuries that happen as a result of an arc flash can be life changing—even deadly. IR inspection windows eliminate the need for thermographers to open energized equipment, greatly reducing the risk to personnel.
