If you wear soft contact lenses, you should discontinue wear one week before your final examination prior to the laser surgery. If you wear rigid gas permeable, soft toric or hard contact lenses, you should discontinue these at least three weeks before your final examination. The goal is to ensure that the laser is optimally programmed for your native level of nearsightedness or farsightedness and astigmatism.

Before we perform your laser treatment, your eyes will be evaluated and several essential measurements will be made of your eyes. In particular, the degree of nearsightedness or farsightedness and astigmatism will be measured using the most accurate methods available. Also, the curvature of your cornea will be checked with two devices known as a keratometer and corneal topographer. Pupil size measurements will be taken to confirm that LASIK can be safely performed.

Dr. Sanan uses the ALLEGRETTO WAVE which has been successfully used since the late 90s in Europe. In the United States, it was the first new laser platform to be cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in nearly five years, and that clearance was for the highest-ever ranges of nearsightedness and farsightedness.
LASIK is an outpatient procedure. The actual laser procedure takes only a few seconds, while the entire process may take up to a couple of hours. Dr. Sanan will discuss the follow-up regimen (eye drops, protective eyewear, etc.) and ask you to follow up at specified times to ensure your eyes are healing well.
Do not wear any makeup of any kind on the day of your laser surgery. The makeup can sometimes get in your tear film and make the procedure more difficult. In addition to not wearing makeup, do not wear any perfume or cologne on the day of your laser surgery. These can affect the accuracy of the laser.
This procedure is not covered by insurance and is a self-pay procedure. You can also apply for CareCredit and if approved, you can use that as your source of payment.
