Microlens arrays contain multiple microlenses (small lenses – diameter ranging from 1mm to 10µm) formed in a one-dimensional or two-dimensional array on a supporting substrate, which is generally thicker than the lens to support the structure. Microlens arrays work with very high optical loads.

These microstructures provide optimum spectral efficiency (UV to far IR). Refractive microlens arrays offer perfect operation for the entire wavelength range: Silicon from 1.2µm to 5µm and Fused Silica from 193nm to 3µm. Anti-reflective coatings can optimize the transmission for selected wavelength ranges. We can specify the lateral dimension range of the arrays as – micro-scale: some millimeters, macro-scale: up to 30 millimeters. The array structure dimensions are typically in the sub-millimeter range.
