Silicon is an ideal optical material for applications using wavelengths in the near-IR range and parts of the mid-IR range. Silicon offers high thermal conductivity and low density, making it suitable for laser windows. These windows are fabricated using optical Czochralski silicon (OCz-Si) and therefore exhibit a strong absorption band at 9 µm and low transmission at THz frequencies. As a result, they are not suitable for use in CO2 laser transmission or terahertz applications.

Belden’s extensive line of indoor and outdoor cable products is offered in tight buffer and loose tube designs. Armored, burial, and ruggedized designs are suited to a host of industrial environments. For each product design, items for OM1, OM3, OM4, OM5, and OS2 (Singlemode) items have been developed. Belden fiber products are third-party tested by either ETL or UL and approved for use according to the National Electric Code.

In addition to the silicon wedged windows offered here, Thorlabs also offers wedged windows with other substrate materials (see the selection guide to the right).
