UVA lamps are used for bacterial identification, staining, electrophoresis, pesticide analysis, fluorescence photography, visualizing nucleic acids, and other genetic work. UVA is also useful for monitoring chlorination, in fluorochemistry, titrations, thin-layer chromatography (TLC), food contamination identification, water testing, and forensic applications.
The 17092 is a reflective sensor that also includes an iR emitter and phototransistor in a package which has the added advantage of blocking visible light. This small package is a great addition to line followers, or edge detecting applications. This product is famous for its uses in coin acceptors, and many other higher speed applications. Note: There is no current-limiting resistor on the power lead that attaches to the IR LED. At 5V, use a 82ohm 1/2W resistor for maximum power. 220ohms 1/4W works great for a more typical 20mA emitter current.
