Refractive indexof oil

Notch filters, or stop-band filters, are designed to block a specific narrow wavelength range (stop band) and to transmit broad wavelength ranges outside of this band (pass bands). These optical filters feature high optical density (OD), which is a logarithmic measurement of the percent transmission (T%): OD = log10 1 ⁄ T%. OD is specified for the center wavelength of the stop band.

OD 6.0 Notch Filters are designed to block specific laser wavelengths. While these optical filters reject a very narrow wavelength range (FWHM ±15-20 nm), they feature broad transmission ranges (pass bands). Custom Notch filters available on request.

According to Figure 2 a relatively high refractive index and low density can be obtained with glasses containing light metal oxides such as Li2O and MgO, while the opposite trend is obtained with glasses containing PbO and BaO.

The spectral characteristics of Notch filters strongly depend on the angle of incidence (AOI). We specify OD for the design wavelength at 0° AOI. An interesting relation exists between the refractive indices of glasses and their densities. This relation is certainly not always linear for all glass compositions. Figure 2 shows a typical diagram that can be obtained when calculating the densities (see density model) for experimental refractive index data, or when calculating the refractive indices for the experimental density data.

Thin-film notch filters, or rejection filters, can be used for numerous applications, where some specific laser wavelengths need to be blocked, while others have to be transmitted. They are commonly used in Raman spectroscopy, medical laser systems, laser safety applications and laser-based fluorescence instruments.
