I havent heard of them but that prob says more about me than them - when I like a brand I stick. I like photography and have always have cameras about the house. My best Budget buy I have to say is the Fujifilm finepix - quick point and snap digital camera very easy to use -digital so can download onto pc and print pics myself.Beleive or not Casio make very good quality High Zoom cameras - normally for schools and police etc -you can pick them up quite cheap - a bit bulky and a litte complicated but the best Optical Zoom I own.For 35mm I still use Olympus and for filming I trust my Sony. The later two are not in the budget range though - but Fuji - for a child I am sure would be more than suitable.
Praktica are a well know manufacturer from Eastern Germany.Their products are well made, although tend to look a bit old fashioned by Japanese standards, but nevertheless are generally much cheaper and offer value for money. We had a Praktica SLR which was used regularly for 15 years before it finally gave up.

Ive just looked at one on the Argos website - it looks like it does all the things a child would need. I dont know if they sell them in proper camera shops but I would have a look in one and if they do ask to take a picture from it. I always try cameras in the shop before buying them and a proper camera shop will not find this an odd request.Take a few snaps and ask the man or woman to show you how to replay them - if your happy tell them you will think about it and take their details. Then look for the cheapest place that sells it.I must admit I do buy from our local camera shop because I know if there are any problems I can take it in and talk to them.
