Diamond-like carbon coating process
Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings are perfectly suited to the most extreme wear conditions and high sliding speeds, even without lubrication. They minimise frictional losses, making them ideal for engine components such as fuel injection systems, valve trains and pistons. Many other applications, ranging from pumps and compressors to bearing shells and rollers, and from textile machines to medical technology, also exploit the outstanding gliding properties of DLC coatings.
PU 34017 Adhesive should be mixed thoroughly with the PU 34017 Hardener at a ratio of 20 parts resin to 1 part hardener (20:1). PU 34017 can be cured at room temperature at 18-24°C, with full cure and final properties occuring after 3-5 days. The hardener is available in clear, blue and black, the colours acting as a pigment. Heat can be used to accelarate the curing process, but must not exceed 80°C.

The adhesive must not be applied to any part of the substrate that does not require flocking. Those areas should be covered with a mask or sealed off with masking tape. Adhesive should cover at least 10% of flock fibre length. The adhesive must be viscose enough to support the flock fibres during the cure.

PU 34017 is a two component water-based polyurethane adhesive used for flocking on plastic substrates like ABS and pre-treated PP, as well as metals and a wide range of other substrates. PU 34017 exhibits an excellent film formation even when thickly applied, and produces a durable finish with high mechanical strength and very high water resistances. It is suitable for application by various means (including spray gun) and has a 10minute open time.
Through its extreme hardness, BALINIT® DLC provides excellent protection against abrasion, tribo-oxidation and adhesive wear, whilst permitting high surface pressures that would otherwise quickly cause scuffing and cold welding.
