Microscope Anatomy & Function Condenser Page 4 of 4 The condenser has an iris diaphragm that controls the angle of the beam of light focused onto the specimen.  The iris diaphram is an adjustable shutter which allows you to adjust the amount of light passing through the condenser.  The angle determines the Numerical Aperture (NA) of the condenser.
