Polarization by Scattering- When light travels through a medium, atoms of the medium (also the dust present in the medium) vibrate and produce electromagnetic waves. These waves are radiated outwards and thus the light is scattered. In this entire process, absorption and remission of light waves occur throughout the material. The scattered light is also known as partially polarized. Transmission of these partially polarised lights causes glare.
An event caused by the vibration of light waves limited to a specific plane is known as polarisation. With normal light from the feed, vibration usually occurs in the distribution path across all active aircraft.
Mustache distortion is the third type of lens distortion. It combines barrel distortion and pincushion distortion for a mustache-like effect:
You’ll notice a pincushion effect mostly when you’re photographing with a telephoto lens or when you’re using the telephoto end of a zoom.
Sunlight and other natural, as well as artificial sources, give rise to light. Truly, light is a wave phenomenon. It can bend around objects. It can diffract and interfere. The light waves travel through the vacuum to reach us and because of Earth’s magnetic field, it becomes an Electromagnetic wave. These light waves are transverse. It exhibits the phenomenon of reflection, refraction, interference, diffraction, double refraction and polarisation. The electric and magnetic field vectors of the light wave travel in all directions. If the movement of these vectors is restricted to a single plane then the effect is called Polarization of light. Specialized materials are used to filter these beams, according to the direction of propagation.
Polarization by Transmission- In this method, involves the use of filter materials that have special chemical composition. They are known as Polaroid filters. These polaroid filters can block one of the two planes of electromagnetic waves. When the unpolarized light is transmitted through these polaroid filters, it filters out one-half of the vibrations of the light in a single plane. This polarized light has one half of the intensity.
Circular Polarization- It is the type of polarization in which at every point, the electromagnetic field has a constant magnitude but its direction rotates with a constant value in a plane perpendicular to the direction of the wave. A circularly polarized wave can rotate in two ways, either the electric field vector rotates according to the direction of propagation in a right-hand direction or according to the direction of propagation in a left-hand sense. The phenomenon of polarization rises as a result of the fact that light acts as a 2 Dimensional transverse wave.
To avoid this effect, try to shoot from a higher or farther vantage point – perhaps from the opposite side of the street or from a window. Alternatively, you can use tilt-shift lenses. These are capable of producing distortion-free photos (though they do tend to be relatively pricey!).
For example, have you ever taken a group selfie and noticed how the person closest to the camera (generally the one holding the phone) looks wider? Or have you ever taken a shot of a tall building and noticed how the building appears to get narrower and narrower as it extends up toward the sky (to the point that it seems like it might fall backward)?
Elliptical Polarization- It is the type of polarization where the tip of the electric field vector defines an ellipse in any fixed plane traversing and is normal to the direction of propagation. An elliptically polarized wave may be bifurcated into two linearly polarized waves with their polarization planes perpendicular to each other. As the electric field can rotate clockwise or anti-clockwise while propagating, elliptically polarized waves show chirality.

Pincushion distortion is the opposite of barrel distortion. Instead of producing lines that bow outward, pincushion distortion pushes lines inward, like this:
If you try to open a RAW file in Photoshop, it will automatically pop up in Adobe Camera Raw; here, the interface is practically identical to Lightroom, so you can follow the instructions I’ve given above.
In fact, lens manufacturers generally provide software developers with lens correction data. Then, when you import an image into your editing software, the program recognizes your lens type and automatically applies distortion correction (though you’ll generally need to activate this process). Nice, right?
You can try clicking the Auto option, or you can adjust the Vertical and Horizontal sliders until you get a nice result.

Of course, 50mm isn’t suitable for all types of photography. If you need to shoot with a wide-angle or telephoto lens, you can check test charts prior to purchasing new gear and pick lenses with the least distortion, or you can fix the distortion in post-production, which is surprisingly simple:
Selfie distortion is another common issue. To avoid it, try working with a selfie stick; you might also try mounting your camera on a tripod, activating the self-timer, and taking a few steps back. The idea is to get farther away from your camera to prevent your face (or nose) from appearing unnaturally large.
(In fact, the barrel distortion in fisheye lenses is so intense that photographers use it creatively instead of trying to correct it.)

You’ve probably identified perspective distortion in your own photos, even if you didn’t know what to call it; it can get pretty obvious, especially in wide-angle, telephoto, and cityscape photography.
Unfortunately, mustache distortion is difficult to fix; fortunately, it’s also pretty rare, and if you’re lucky, it won’t affect any of your lenses.
If you prefer to correct distortion in Photoshop, however (or you’re editing a JPEG file), then open the Filter menu and click on the Lens Correction option.

Linear Polarization- Linearly polarized light wave means that the electric field vibrates in a certain linear direction perpendicular to the wave axis, and the magnetic field vibrates in a direction that is perpendicular to both, the advancement axis and direction of the electric field. The direction of polarization is considered to be the direction of the electric field vibration. The polarization can take place in any other direction perpendicular to the wave axis. Rotation of the polarization by 180° does not lead to a rationally different state.
It means that the light emitted by the sun travels in all the given directions i.e in different planes. And while being transmitted through a distance it gets semi polarized and only gets polarized when its angle of reflection is equal to the angle of polarization. Because the light of the sun takes all directions, it is said to be unpolarized light. When unpolarized light falls on the transparent surface at an angle of incidence equal to the polarization angle also called Brewster's angle, it is called plane-polarized. When the unpolarized light is passed through a polarizing sheet, it becomes polarized.
Subtle pincushion distortion can be flattering for portraits, which is why telephoto lenses that range from 85mm to 105mm are often used by portrait photographers. But too much pincushion distortion can become problematic, so it’s always a good idea to keep an eye out for pincushion effects!
Electronic polarization: The displacement occurring in dielectric elements and minerals between a positive charge and negative charge results in Electronic polarization.
After you use the Main and Edge sliders to correct optical distortion (see above), use the Vertical and Horizontal sliders to fix any perspective distortion issues.
Flexible Waves: Waves where particle movements depend on the direction of wave motion. For example, when you throw a stone, it creates waves in the water and sounds like air.
To see extension distortion in action, grab a wide-angle setup (your smartphone will work just fine!), then put your nose close to the lens and take a photo. See how your nose looks huge in relation to the rest of your face?
Compression distortion is the opposite of extension distortion, and it’s when objects far from the camera appear unnaturally small (or close together).
The combination of electrical and magnetic fields that travel through space is known as light. The electric current and the magnetic field of light waves depend on each other. The magnetic field travels one way and the electric field in another but remains perpendicular. So we have an electric field in one plane, a magnetic field in which to fly, and a direction in the direction of both. Electrical and magnetic vibrations can occur on a variety of aircraft.
Compression distortion is often referred to as compression due to focal length, but this is incorrect; telephoto focal lengths do tend to exhibit more obvious compression distortion, but only because telephoto photography is generally done at a distance.
In impact, polarized mild waves having their vibration instructions oriented parallel to every different can integrate to provide interference, while those which can be perpendicular do not intervene.
Perspective distortion, on the other hand, technically isn’t lens distortion (though it often gets labeled as such). Instead, perspective distortion is created by the position of the camera in relation to the subject.

You’ll often notice perspective distortion when photographing buildings. Because you’re shooting from the ground up, the bottom of the building (the part nearer to your lens) will expand, while the top of the building (the part farthest from your lens) will compress. Ultimately, the building will appear to converge toward the top.
In ophthalmic instruments, to eliminate strong reflection from a patient's cornea, the phenomenon polarization of light is used.
Polarization is a crucial property of light that affects even the optical systems that don't explicitly measure it. The polarization of light influences the point of interest of laser beams affects the reduced-off wavelengths of filters and can be critical to saving you unwanted returned reflections.
It’s a complex topic – but with a basic understanding of distortion, you can avoid both optical and perspective distortion in your photos, and you can take steps to correct it when necessary.
To correct perspective distortion in Lightroom, start by opening your image in the Develop panel. Find the Transform section.
If you’re working with a RAW file, you can also correct the perspective in Adobe Camera Raw. Just follow the instructions I gave for distortion correction in Lightroom (above).
Optical distortion is caused by the construction of your lens. Note that a lens can be plagued by three kinds of optical distortion, which I explore in greater depth below:

Barrel distortion is one of the most common lens distortions in photography, and it generally happens when you use a wide-angle lens (or the wide portion of a zoom). Keep in mind that the shorter the focal length, the more pronounced the distortion.
For longitudinal waves, the displacement of the particles is parallel to the wave propagation direction. Particles do not move in the tube with the waves. They simply rock back and forth around individual equilibrium positions. Choose a single particle and watch it move. The waves appear to move from left to right in the compressed area (that is, the pressure wave).
This effect is especially noticeable when using wide-angle lenses, as wide-angle photography often takes place close to the camera. However, it is not directly caused by wide-angle lenses, and you can still get extension distortion when using telephoto lenses.
By the time you’ve finished, you’ll be a distortion expert – and you’ll know how to deal with any and all distortion in your photos.
Polarization additionally takes place when light is scattered even as touring via a medium. while light moves the atoms of a material, it'll regularly set the electrons of these atoms into vibration. Polarization by Refraction- Refraction is when a light wave travels from one medium to another, it changes its direction and speed. This refracted beam attains some degree of polarization. In the majority of the cases, polarization by refraction occurs in the plane which is perpendicular to the surface.
Compression comes with several pleasing effects, so certain photographers, such as portrait, wildlife, and bird snappers, deliberately try to produce it. For instance, compression helps smooth out backgrounds (which in turn enhances the subject).

If with the help of several methods (reflection, refraction or dispersion) a beam of light is produced when vibration is limited to one highly efficient aircraft, then it is called far-flung polarized light. Therefore, polarization is the process of producing a polarized mild aircraft from non-coating.
As I discussed above, perspective distortion isn’t technically lens distortion; instead, it’s caused by the distance between the subject and the camera/lens.
Here, you’ll find plenty of tools under Auto-Correction. To fix optical lens distortion, click the Geometric Distortion option.
Extension distortion, also called wide-angle distortion, is when objects close to the camera appear unnaturally large (or far apart).
If Lightroom doesn’t recognize your lens or does a poor job correcting distortion, you can always click the Manual option and adjust the Distortion slider until you get a result you like.
Due to the three dimensions, there are two directions perpendicular to the propagation direction. Therefore, if the wave is propagating in the Z direction (that is, if the Z-axis is selected as the direction of travel of the wave), the wave can oscillate in the X or Y direction, or a combination of these overlay directions. Therefore, the shear wave has two polarizations, one for each direction of propagation. If you have a polarized light-sensitive medium (such as a polarizing element for eyeglasses), you can detect the polarized light. For example, consider two polarisations. Align one to the X-axis, then rotate the other. You can see that the light intensity is cos2θ. Where θ is the relative angle between the preferential directions of the modulator.
Some types of perspective distortion can be fixed in post-processing, though note that you’ll lose pixels in the process.
In transverse waves, the displacement of the particles is perpendicular to the wave propagation direction. Particles do not move with the waves. They only sway up and down around their equilibrium positions as the waves pass. Choose a single particle and watch it move. The S wave (secondary wave) of an earthquake is an example of a transverse wave. The S wave travels slower than the P wave and arrives in a few seconds.
So if you do plan to allow for perspective distortion and only make corrections afterward, aim to compose slightly wider than necessary (to give yourself room to crop at the end).

The focal length, the design, the number of glass elements, and other factors together determine the amount and type of optical distortion a lens will produce – so some lenses feature significant distortion, while others are completely (or nearly) distortion-free. Interestingly, some zoom lenses actually produce multiple types of distortion depending on which focal lengths you test.
You know how big barrels have a narrow top and bottom but an expanded center? Well, that’s exactly what happens to straight lines in a photo with barrel distortion.
Optical distortion is easy to deal with, and most professional and semi-professional editing software has a tool that lets you make quick corrections.
Also, whatever software or technique you use, make sure your horizon is straight before you do any perspective correction.
