Focusing with the Low Power Objective Low power objectives cover a wide field of view and they are useful for examining large specimens or surveying many smaller specimens. This objective is useful for aligning the microscope. The power for the low objective is 10X. Place one of the prepared slides onto the stage of your microscope. Make sure that the specimen is centered over the stage aperture. The light source should be adjusted to medium intensity, the condenser about three-fourths of the way up and the iris should be almost closed. Rotate the low power objective into place over the specimen. While looking from the side, crank the specimen up as close as it can get to the objective. Next

Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is the most common form of infrared spectroscopy. All infrared spectroscopies act on the principle that when infrared (IR) radiation passes through a sample, some of the radiation is absorbed. The radiation that passes through the sample is recorded. Because different molecules with their different structures produce different spectra, the spectra can be used to identify and distinguish among molecules. In this way, the spectra are like people’s fingerprints or DNA: virtually unique.FTIR is the preferred method of infrared spectroscopy for several reasons. First, it does not destroy the sample. Second, it is significantly faster than older techniques. Third, it is much more sensitive and precise.
