Einfarbiges Licht einer bestimmten Wellenlänge bzw. eines konkreten, engen Wellenlängenbereichs. Monochromatisches Licht kann auf unterschiedliche Weise aus dem durch — Dispersion oder T Beugung erzeugten Farbspektrum des weißen Lichtes ausgesondert werden. In Spektralphotometern, die u. a. zur Messung der - Farbdichte benutzt werden, wird es mit Absorptionsfiltern der restlichen Farbanteile abgetrennt. Für die Holographie wird nicht nur streng monochromatisches, sondern auch kohärentes, also phasengleiches Licht benötigt. Diese Bedingungen erfüllt das Laserlicht, das in der experimentellen Fotografie mitunter als frappierendes Effektlicht eingesetzt wird.
