Motori asincroni monofase I motori possono essere alimentati anche con tensione monofase 230 V – 50 Hz, in questo caso però, a parte alcune  ottimizzazioni del circuito, necessitano di un condensatore per garantire lo spunto iniziale dei motori elettrici monofase. Tutte le caratteristiche sono simili a quelle dei corrispondenti motori trifase ad eccezione della coppia di spunto notevolmente inferiore (di poco superiore alla coppia nominale), per cui quando si seleziona una motorizzazione è molto importante considerare questa caratteristica (soprattutto con i riduttori a vite senza fine nei quali è necessaria una coppia superiore per vincere gli attriti di primo distacco).
