If you decide to just go and buy the biggest UV then you might be doing more harm than good. The reason we spec an ultraviolet light based on water test results is so we can maintain the makeup of the water and keep it as natural and full of healthy minerals. If you use a massive UV light filter you will be killing and damaging the natural makeup of the water and will find it tastes a little plain/off.

You certainly can change the bulb yourself but we would recommend opting for a maintenance program with us. While changing the bulb is easy and usually needs to be done every 12 months, the glass quartz sleeve will need to be removed and cleaned to ensure the ultraviolet light can pass through it. We do not recommend changing quartz sleeves yourself as they are very fragile and new washers will need to be fitted.

Yes, they are. UV filters are the safest way to kill microorganisms present in the water without the use of harmful chemicals.
When selecting ultraviolet system care must be taken to choose a model that is powerful enough to treat the flow required. If the flow is faster than specified the water passes through the chamber too fast for the rays to effectively kill all the bacteria.
We recommend replacing the UV bulb every 12 months as it has been found that after that time the bulb starts to break down and then within a very short space of time the bulb may still be bright but it is not killing anything. Most UV filter manufacturers suggest the bulbs be replaced every 12 months.

The best way to treat microbial unsafe water is through the use of UV light filters. Not only do UV light sterilizers provide one of the safest ways to disinfect water, but they also eliminate the need for chemical disinfectants, making them an eco-friendly option. As chlorine or other harsh chemicals are not employed for treatment, it doesn’t impart any bad taste or odour in the filtered water. Due to increased legislation, they are widely being employed in the food and beverage industry.
First, you will normally need to find out if bacteria are present in the water and, this is done via a water test. We are then able to use the results to work out what size ultraviolet light might be required. There are a few ways to remove or kill bacteria in the water and they are either by ultraviolet light or by adding chemicals to the water, we always prefer to use an ultraviolet light.
More than 11% of the Irish population sources drinking water from private water supplies such as wells, lakes, or springs. However, the water supply in your home may not be biologically safe.
