This is an old project of mine that has been abandoned because of a lack of ideas. Now I resurrected it. It should be a general solution for capacitive control panels behind a glass. There are a few locations where those switches will be used behind tempered glass 3-8mm thick (instead of wall switches there will be a 3mm glass, in the kitchen because of its size glass must be 8mm thick).

I have made a few tryouts with a transparent acrylic pipe around the contact area, deep enough that the LED on the other end would be far enough. I have tried with the LED on the side of the acrylic pipe, with a clear polished front-facing edge, and with a sanded front-facing edge. I have also tried with 3D printed transparent pieces. I have one such solution that looks promising and would probably be homogenous with two LEDs.

The final solution I can cast from clear epoxy. But I need your help to get to the final solution. I have also tried googling light pipes but found only the examples for flat and bent light pipes which are self-explanatory.

I need an idea of how to make a homogenously lit circle around a circular capacitive switch. The LED should be at least 4-6mm apart from the capacitive pad (according to capacitive switch PDFs by some vendors; Atmel suggests 5mm, Texas 4mm, ...). The solution needed is a DIY solution. The industrial solution can be helpful, but it is not really what I am looking for. And I would like it to be lit with one LED per switch. I intend to use RGB addressable LEDs and with their three wires and the wires from the capacitive probe wires, I think that it will be much simpler with fewer components.
