WILTON — The Select Board voted Tuesday to approve buying Tasers for the Police Department and a truck for the Water Department.

The total project cost is $151,400. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program would pay 75%, or $113,550.

Respirator mask

N95 respirators are considered the most protective face masks on the market today, according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). They are designed to filter out around 95% of particles 0.3 microns or larger in the air , which is how they got their name. In other business, the Select Board also approved moving forward with a .gov town website domain. Currently, the town has a .org site.

Data from the gauges, which would be placed in the Sandy River and the south branch of the Carrabassett River in Carrabassett Valley, would provide critical information on river levels in areas that are otherwise less monitored and improve flood prediction and response capabilities in the vast regions, according to the EMA directors.

Half Mask (Elastomeric): Elastomeric respirators offer added protection by sealing to the person’s face so that these harmful substances can slip through the cracks. These devices are completely reusable for lasting protection. Just like a dust mask, half mask respirators only cover the lower part of the face, so the eyes will still be exposed.

Dalton Plante, superintendent of the Wastewater and Water Department, said he received two prices from Hight Chevrolet in Farmington. The lower price of $63,519 was for a steel service body. He said he preferred the aluminum service body because it would stand up better in the type of work the department does.

NIOSH Items: We only sell brand new respirators, filters, and dust masks from US-based manufacturers. Since it can be difficult to determine if a respirator or mask has been used or even tried on, for the protection of our customers, we do not accept NIOSH returns.

PPE

Full Facepiece (Elastomeric): The full-face respirator wraps around the person’s entire face, including their nose, mouth, and eyes for maximum face protection. They are made with elastomeric materials or silicone that seal to the person’s face. These respirators are also reusable.

It’s important to clean your respirator on a regular basis. Excess dirt, debris, and grease can leave gaps in the seal, which could put workers at risk. They may be designed to protect against gases, vapors, and chemicals in the workplace. Some use filters, chemical cartridges, or powered particulate filtering technology to improve air quality. The wearer operates the respirator simply by breathing.

Gas Mask

Air-supplied respirators: These respirators provide a fresh, continuous supply of oxygen to the wearer through a mouthpiece. This ensures they have access to oxygen while working in potentially hazardous settings. Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) fall into this category as well. These devices require a power source. The person will need to turn the respirator on to keep the air flowing.

The board also approved buying a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with an aluminum service body for $65,439 for the Water Department.

3M respirator Selection Guide

Maiuri said she would like to know more about the project before the board decides on a contribution. She didn’t understand why the county didn’t put the expense in the county budget.

Selectperson Keith Swett said he didn’t see how the monitors would benefit the town and would like to hear why Wilton should contribute.

Half Mask/Dust Mask: Half-mask respirators and dust masks only cover part of the face, including the person’s mouth and nose, to prevent them from inhaling potentially hazardous substances. This category includes non-elastomeric respirators and face masks. The equipment doesn’t cover the person’s eyes, so they may need to wear safety glasses or goggles as well.

Police Chief Ethan Kyes previously sought requests for proposals for Tasers and budgeted $25,000 for equipment. The quote from Axon, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, was $23,087.50 for seven Taser 7s.  The price includes licensing, a five-year warranty, storage space on the system, docking station, and training and deployment cartridges, Kyes said.

You should then disinfect the respirator by letting it soak in a solution of quaternary ammonia disinfectant, sodium hypochlorite, or some other type of disinfectant. Rinse with warm water and let it air dry in a non-contaminated environment.

Selectpersons also agreed to have Town Manager Maria Greeley ask Franklin County Emergency Management Agency directors to attend a Select Board meeting to explain the need for a town local match for a grant for two river gauge monitors. The agency is requesting the town to contribute $919.76 for the 25% nonfederal match.
