The family of Clare Nowland described the decision as "too little, too late" in a statement issued via lawyer Sam Tierney.

"The NSW Police Commissioner has today advised that Kristian White's ongoing employment has finally been terminated," the statement reads.

The NSW Police officer found guilty of the manslaughter of a 95-year-old woman in an aged care home in the Snowy Mountains has been sacked from the force in a move Clare Nowland's family has described as "too little, too late".

Evidence was heard before a jury over the next eight days, during which the Crown argued that White breached a duty of care he owed to Mrs Nowland and committed manslaughter by criminal negligence or by committing an unlawful or dangerous act.

NSW Police issued a statement the morning after the guilty verdict was handed down saying he had been suspended without pay.

"The Nowland family consider the decision to be too little, too late … the Commissioner has had full access to all materials on which the jury last week found Mr White guilty of the unlawful killing of Clare for over 12 months and chose to take no action."

"Today I have determined that I do not have confidence in the officer's suitability to continue as a police officer, in line with the procedure mandated under the Police Act 1990 section 181D," Commissioner Karen Webb's statement read.

The defence argued that White’s actions were not disproportionate to the threat Mrs Nowland posed at the time and said he was preventing a breach of the peace in his role as a police officer.
