Last week, while on vacation, I was able to drive the famous Transfăgărășan road in Romania. This road is located on the southern section of the Carpathian Mountain range and is the second highest paved road in the country. It’s about 56 miles long, and it climbs to an altitude of 6,699 feet. The first half of the road takes you through the forest through hairpin turns, and then you pop out of the forest on the top half of a mountain where even sharper and steeper hairpin turns, long S-curves, and sharp climbs lead you to a lake at the top.

On my recent trip to Europe, Belgium turned out to be one of my favorite stops for multiple reasons. I had the pleasure of meeting several members of the local Belgian State Police and the Belgian Federal Police and learn how they have been leading the way in UAS operations. Big things are happening in the Belgian State Police in public safety drone operations. Going back to 2016, The Belgian Federal Police were pioneers in indoor tactical flying and were instrumental in developing the original Sky-Hero Loki platform. They have been advancing drone use in their operations ever since. To meet some of them and hear their stories was a true honor. I also finally visited the Sky-Hero by Axon HQ in Brussels to catch up with old friends and witness firsthand the expanded operation. I have been either flying the Loki platforms or providing training on them for several years, so this was an amazing experience to visit the great minds behind these tools. Sky Hero is more than just a drone manufacturer, they provide a tactical ecosystem including a ground robot, aerial drone, pole camera, and many attachments, all controlled by one ground control system. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next.

Usually, winding roads go through forests and up mountains, allowing for a lot of blind and shaded areas. Turning your headlights on will help others see you while driving all the turns. It can help during all times of the day, not just during dawn, dusk, or at night.

While many winding roads also tend to be narrow, it might be slightly nerve-racking to want to hug the inner line. However, keeping closer to the left lines helps keep the car centered as you approach the apex of the curve. Many winding roads will have lookout areas containing parked cars, or other debris on the road, so sticking closer to the inner line helps you avoid these things.

It's fitting that as we close out Axon's Founders Day weekend, we find ourselves back at the National Tactical Officers Association conference, where it all began. Our mission to protect life was clear then and it remains unchanged today. Now, we return with even more solutions to protect more lives in more places...and we are just getting started.

We are proud to highlight the recent success of first responders in Poland, particularly the Fire Department, in pioneering new horizons in rescue operations with the deployment of the cutting-edge Sky-Hero by AXON robotic system ! This milestone achievement was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of our dedicated local distributor, Dilectro Enterprise. In May, around 250 professionals from the Polish Red Cross, Police - including officers from the Department of Search and Identification of Persons of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Gdansk and officers from the Puck District Police Station -  and Fire Department took part in the annual rescue maneuvers, codenamed "Peninsula," in Hel, polish city located north of Gdansk. A major highlight was the performance of the Sigyn MkI sUGV, which played a critical role throughout the exercises. This marks one of the first global deployments of such advanced robotic technology within fire department operations, representing a significant leap forward in how emergencies are managed. The training not only provided an opportunity to master new rescue techniques but also prepared teams for rare, high-risk situations.
