US trafficsigns
The following signs provide information specific to drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous substances. These regulations are aimed primarily at industrial or commercial carriers, who are aware of their obligations.
Road sign
The Prohibited Direction sign indicates that access to a public highway is prohibited for all classes of vehicles. This international symbol is used to prevent motorists from driving the wrong way in a one-way lane, for instance.
La signalisation routière au Québec, the series of posters on Québec road signs, is available free of charge. These posters highlight the symbols and signs that have been used in the province for over 100 years.
The following signs indicate the presence of a pedestrian crosswalk on a public highway. There are several types of crosswalks, including pedestrian crosswalks, school crosswalks and playground crosswalks.
Where traffic is not already controlled by an “Arrêt” sign or a traffic light, motorists and cyclists must stop to allow a pedestrian entering a pedestrian crosswalk to cross.
Trafficsignsand meaning
The “Arrêt” sign indicates that vehicles are required to stop at an intersection. It must not be used for the sole purpose of slowing down traffic.
Regulatory signs are generally white, black or red in colour, indicating the obligations to be followed and the prohibitions to be respected on the road.
The sign shown below is affixed under each “Arrêt” sign when users from all directions are required to stop. The image is adapted to the configuration of the intersection.
The sign below indicates that there is not enough space for two-way traffic and, therefore, the right-of-way must be given to oncoming traffic. It can be used when roadwork is in progress.
The following sign indicates to vehicle drivers that they are not required to stop at a railway crossing. This information applies only to vehicles that are generally required to stop at railway crossings, such as buses. The sign is installed when the track is no longer used or when rail traffic is scarce and special measures have been taken to ensure safety.
