It is an employer’s responsibility to make sure that all staff are fully trained in relation to the management or handling of any chemical or hazardous substance. As such, any business owner or manager is responsible for having spill training in place for all employees who come into contact with hazardous substances in the workplace.
Hyde Park Environmental offers a training course for the use of spill kits. In the event of an emergency, staff need to know the correct procedures to ensure proper actions are put in place in the event of a spill. Each delegate will be shown the different uses of equipment followed by a short video. Each delegate will receive a certificate of compliance on the completion of a questionnaire. We can train approximately 1-15 Delegates per course, on your site, which allows them to relate the training to their own working environment.

The training course will last approximately 1 - 1½ Hours. The spill kits and various materials will be brought along, and a room with a screen and DVD player is required in order to show the video. A short practical demonstration will be shown outside the building, so that it builds up a clearer picture for each staff to clean up any spills as quickly and effectively as possible.
Spill kit training will depend on the size and scope of the operation and the potential danger of the hazardous substances on-site. It can be delivered at many different levels depending on the specific requirements of the business. At the most basic level, Spill Kit Training Courses are designed to ensure that an employee is trained to respond correctly to a spill incident using the appropriate equipment.

This training consists of a product discussion along with a real live scenario DVD of a spill incident happening. It also covers all related cautions and/or how they may arise in the event of an incident. This is more detailed, and staff will find the video more relatable to their own work environment.
By developing a thorough response plan and using ongoing training to ensure that employees understand what to do and are ready to respond, you’ll be able to minimise the potential danger posed by chemical spills and other hazardous substances. According to the Environment Agency, “Major pollution incidents can in many cases be prevented if appropriate pollution prevention measures are taken at an early stage. Planning is the key to success, and both preventative measures and incident response strategies need to be carefully addressed”.
Hyde Park offers our customers a quick product explanation of the different absorbent types and their usage within the workplace environment. This will ensure everyone who may come across a spill incident is aware of the correct product to use and how to use the spill kit correctly.

Workplace spills, leaks and overflows are unfortunately a common occurrence in many organisations. Not only can they be costly to a business in terms of damage and downtime, but they can also pose a risk to employee health and safety in the form of trips & falls, severe illnesses and even fatalities in some cases. The dangers of a spill are greatly reduced by swift and effective incident response. The only way to ensure that employees know how to respond to an emergency spill is to implement spill response and spill kit training.
