They are generally trouble free so long as they do not become damaged in the course of their routine use of if they exhibit any defects affecting their performance. Should lithium batteries fail to operate as designed or if they become damaged due to improper storage, they have the potential to start a fire and/or explode.

5   Despite sections 3 and 4, a law enforcement service is not required to use DEMS in relation to a matter if the responsible person for the law enforcement service, or a person designated by that responsible person, determines, having regard to the director's standards, that the matter is a major case.

4   A law enforcement service that uses a system other than DEMS or a legacy system to manage digital evidence on or after January 1, 2022 is immediately required to use DEMS.

Keep batteries from touching each other while being stored. This helps you prevent heat buildup and accidental battery terminal contact between batteries. Reduce the chance of physical damage to your lithium batteries by eliminating the contact of batteries in storage.

Lithium batteries naturally deteriorate over time, and a fully charged lithium-ion battery will lose about 20% of its capacity after a year of storage. The way you store lithium batteries can make them degrade faster or help them have a longer lifespan. It’s critical to store lithium batteries in a cool place between 5 °C and 20 °C (41 °F and 68 °F). You also want to keep lithium-ion batteries at about 50% relative humidity. Consult the manufacturer’s SDS for specific details.
