The Emergency Report Centre is available 24 hours a day at 613-533-6080 (non-emergency), 613-533-6111 (emergency); or by using a Blue Light Emergency Phone.

Campus Security will hold on to property for a period of one month. After one month, any unclaimed property is sent to a local charity or disposed of.

Anyone who wishes to be escorted can call 613-533-6080. Security Staff will be sent to meet you and will escort you to your destination.

Security Patrollers (part-time, casual) - $29.00* per person/hour ($43.50* per person/hour for Statutory holidays and for hours that qualify as overtime).

While the presence of these phones cannot guarantee your safety, they do provide an effective method of getting help in an emergency situation. The phones are intended to be used in any situation where you feel threatened or anxious, if you witness an accident or a crime, or if you wish to be escorted. Make yourself familiar with the location of the blue lights along the routes you typically walk. If you begin to feel uneasy, concerned, or afraid, don't hesitate to use them.

Campus Security provides escorted walks from one point on campus to another for staff, faculty and students when Walkhome is off duty. This service is provided at any time, day or night, all year round.

The bund must be large enough to contain greater than 110% of the largest container in the bund or 25% of the total stored in the bund.

Pay Phone can be used for free to contact Campus Security and Emergency Services. Just lift the receiver, press the button labeled "Campus Security", and you will be connected to the Emergency Report Center. In a crisis situation, the fastest way to contact security is to push #1 (no need to wait for the voice message to finish). However, if no buttons are pushed, the line will automatically connect to Security after about one minute. The phone indicates to the ERC the exact location of the call. If no voice is heard, the situation is considered an emergency, and Security staff are immediately dispatched to the location of the phone.

The Emergency Report Centre (ERC) is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing the Queen's Community a central point of communication and dispatch for Campus Security and Emergency Services.

Bunding is a spill containment product, especially for businesses that require the storage of liquids such as hazardous chemicals, fuels and oils. Bunding is a safe way to retain spills, while often being out of the way enough to allow for normal work to continue. By engaging in the right type of bunding you can keep both your workers and the environment safe.

Bunding is essential in certain industries as it prevents a liquid from exiting an area where a spill occurs, allowing for easy spill management. The liquid comes in contact with a barrier and this stops the spread, allowing for containment.

You can now use the "Work Alone" feature on the SeQure app and set up automated monitoring.  This feature is only available on campus, location services and notifications must be turned on to use this service.

This kind of bunding is reasonable for any application where heavy vehicles are expected to enter the bunded region. Rubber floor bunding strong and will be driven over often. Often sold in 2 or 5 m increments, it’s easy to install and durable. It has contoured edges that make it less of a tripping hazard and can easily be driven over. This type of bunding is often used in washrooms and where liquids are stored.

Campus Security can also arrange to provide Kingston Police Constables for special events on campus. Please note that there is a four-hour minimum commitment for Kingston Police contracts.

The Campus Watch program is a joint initiative by Campus Security and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Currently, there are over 140 volunteer Safety Officers at Queen’s, reporting to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety. Each of these officers is responsible for a building, unit or area on campus. Their duties include safety inspections, recommending enhancements to health and safety measures and acting as a conduit for safety related information between their unit and EHS.

Types ofbunding

We know that bunding is basically a product for preventing spills, which is especially useful for businesses that need to store liquids like oil and fuel or dangerous chemicals. SO you can think of permanent bunding to be like a retaining wall. It's designed to not have to be moved as much as collapsible bunding, which is made to be temporary and utilised in remote workplaces as well as business that need to move their stored liquids frequently.

Flexible floor bunding is often used where forklifts are common, as it moves and springs back into shape after being driven over and handles repeated use due to its flexible nature. This is a great option for factories and warehouses as it doesn’t slow down vehicle operators and still works well to contain spills.

Once you have the capacity, in order to maintain the bund compliant, it must not have any superfluous items or pooled liquids within it, and if it does, it must be cleaned immediately.

These are essentially palettes that offer the advantages of spill containment. They are widely used for fuel and drum storage and are considered a secondary spill-prevention method that can be stacked or nested for efficient storage or transportation.

Bunds are also sometimes referred to as secondary containment facilities, and to remain in line with the Australian standards, the bunds must be impervious to the content of the substance stored and contain 110% of the total content in the largest bund, or 25% of the total store in the bund.

Outdoor Emergency Phones are easily identified on campus by their blue lights and yellow boxes with a large red button. They are located on frequently traveled routes to create better access to Emergency services along those areas.

Plasticspill bunding

Walkhome is a service provided by the Alma Mater Society that offers safe walks to students, both on the Queen’s campus and within the Kingston community.

It’s important to know that permanent bunding should not act like an obstacle, it should be able to exist without interfering with your daily activities. When you buy from Spill Station, you're investing in a design that is safe, while not getting in your way.

Queen's First Aid is an on-call and event-based service for First Aid assistance, providing prompt response that is both confidential and free of charge. Dispatched by our Emergency Report Centre, they have been trained to the level of Emergency First Responder, Oxygen Administration, and Brigade-Training System Level 1, on top of current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certifications. They also offer standard First Aid and CPR courses and recertification.

Campus Security requires notice of five business days for small events that require one or two Security Patrols, and ten business days for larger events that require Security Supervisors or several Security Patrols.

Many people are aware that bunding is largely used for spill control and the anticipation of any spills that may occur where large amounts of chemicals are held. But do you know the vitality of bunding, and more important permanent bunding, and why purchasing from the best Australian manufacturer is important?

This is popular with forklift operators specifically as it springs back to shape after it's driven over and handles heavy vehicles easily. It’s as effective as rubber floor bunding but better suited to factories and warehouse operators as it doesn’t slow down vehicles while offering good spill containment.

Spill Station offers 10m, 5m and 2m compressible drive over bunding as well as corner pieces, and the same in solid drive over bunding. Essentially offering both rubber floor bunding and flexible floor bunding options.

Verbal Intervention Training will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to recognize and manage crisis behaviours you may encounter in your office or the classroom.  This half-day course is facilitated by CSES staff who have been trained by The Crisis Prevention Institute.

Campus Security provides contract security to university departments and affiliated groups on a limited basis to monitor campus events or for other specialized purposes. Please note that there is a three-hour minimum commitment for Campus Security contracts.

Vehicle travel expenses for contract security beyond main and west campuses may be recovered at a rate of $0.55 per kilometer.  Rental vehicle expenses may also be recovered in their entirety as per requirements.

All calls from Emergency Phones receive the highest priority response. Security Supervisors and any other nearby Security staff are immediately dispatched to the scene and will search the surrounding vicinity if no one is sighted when they arrive. For this reason, it is vital that people do not maliciously activate these phones as they can take security personnel away from genuine emergency situations.

The capacity of a bund is determined by the volume of the liquid stored and the quantities of the containers stored. The Australian Standards are in-depth, but the general rule is:

Also known as emergency bunds, these are a great short-term solution for leaking drums or equipment. Temporary bunds are easy to assemble Chemical spill kits are a method of defence against the hazards associated with releasing dangerous substances. A great containment, decontamination and clean-up tool, the right spill kit can help you teach your staff to handle any spillage.

Longer term contract security can also be arranged through Campus Security based on the needs of the department or organization making the request.

Campus Security reserves the right to substitute staff subject to availability and operational requirements.  *13% HST applies to organizations external to Queen's University.
