I've been researching the training videos of tasers and OC spray exposure, since I'm planning on joining the NYPD Academy and I've heard that many PDs use tasers and OC spray to familiarise recruits on how the devices function. I concluded to embrace the suck and accept it's a part of being an officer. Yet, I came across a post on Quora that the NYPD does not use Tasers or OC spray on recruits during training. Is this true, or has the training recently changed, and have these elements been implemented in the academy? Thanks for the help.

The Taser Cartridge Destruction Unit is a product for use when a Taser Cartridge has become damaged, faulty or out of date and requires disposal in a safe manner. The unit has two negatives inside to hold the cartridges and a lid with two drilling bushes. With the supplied drill piece, the user can safely drill through the cartridges initiator and nitrogen canister. By destroying these components, it is no longer ammunition for a section 5 firearm, but merely general waste that can be scrapped without specialist disposal.
