In order to deal with this issue, the Ministry of Magic employs some of the world's strongest and most skilled Dark wizard catchers. This list has been updated to include even more noteworthy Aurors that appear in the expanded universe and games like Hogwarts Legacy.

As such, it's safe to assume that Ron continued to hone his skills in most branches of practical magic like Charms, Dueling, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. He helped capture the rest of Voldemort's remaining supporters and then left the force two years later to work alongside George at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.

Desperate to find a cure, Aesop contacted Hogwarts' then-Headmaster, Phineas Nigellus Black, and applied for the Potions Master position hoping to make use of the school's resources. He was then known as a visionary and talented teacher with a bit of a temper but plenty of praise for those who deserved it.

Webster was best known for his excellent dueling skills, being proficient enough at martial magic that he managed to hold his own against the powerful Dark witch Gormlaith Gaunt. In order to make use of his abilities, he then became an 'Auror for hire' and traveled the world fighting Dark wizards.

Because he was the strongest Auror, Kingsley had many responsibilities. As a key member of the Order of the Phoenix, Kingsley was tasked with protecting Harry and investigating the Ministry's corruption from the inside. After participating in the Battle of Hogwarts, Kingsley was elected as Minister for Magic, a role he excelled in until Hermione took over in the late 2010s.

Alan Rickman's unforgettable performance as Severus Snape is one of the best parts of the Harry Potter franchise, resulting in a few memorable quotes.

In a duel with Grindelwald at the Lestrange Mausoleum in France, Theseus was able to counteract his opponent's infamous black fire with a simple but effective Finite Incantatem. This showcased his significant magical levels and proved that he deserved to be recognized as one of the strongest Aurors of his time.

Tonks was also gifted at Charms, being able to conjure a fully corporeal Patronus while she was still at Hogwarts. A talented duelist, she could hold her own in a battle against stronger opponents, including one of the best fighters in the series, her aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange.

A fairly accomplished wizard, Rufus Scrimgeour was the Head Auror and spent most of his career tracking down and capturing Dark wizards. After his time as Head Auror, he was promoted to Minister for Magic in Half-Blood Prince. As a highly-experienced Auror, he was quite proficient in defensive magic and was capable of producing a non-corporeal Patronus and could cast nonverbal spells with ease.

Helmut made his first and only appearance in Secrets of Dumbledore as one of the rogue Aurors serving Grindelwald. German-born and bred, he began working for the German Ministry of Magic sometime before 1932 and joined Grindelwald's forces in time to face off against Theseus Scamander during a protest at the Ministry.

During the First Wizarding War against Voldemort, Neville's parents, Frank and Alice Longbottom were considered to be two of the best Aurors and members of the Order of the Phoenix. Both Frank and Alice helped Moody apprehend several of Voldemort's strongest followers, which unfortunately painted a target on their backs.

There are several characters in the Harry Potter canon who almost ended up spending their Hogwarts years supporting a completely different house.

Tina's particularly skilled detective work and her dueling capabilities also proved invaluable during the Global Wizarding War. Not only was she successful in capturing the elusive Credence, but she also confronted Grindelwald and his followers several times.

Considered a very powerful wizard, Theseus was skilled at both offensive and defensive magic. When Grindelwald began causing trouble outside of Great Britain, Theseus, who was the British Head Auror at the time, led various high-profile missions searching for the Dark wizard on international territories.

Cerberus was known as an accomplished and swift duelist with expertise in defensive magic. He was also considered an excellent teacher, as he was asked to supervise the training of various high-priority teams, including the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, a special team created to keep Muggles from noticing magical outbreaks in Wizards Unite.

Alastor Moody was easily the best Auror of his time, gaining legendary status within the force for his high-level dueling skills and for the number of Dark wizards he caught during his time of service. Though he was never promoted to Head of the Auror Office, he was respected by most rookie Aurors for his impressive career.

Far less flashy than his fellow Aurors, Kingsley Shacklebolt stood out for his high skill levels in all branches of practical magic like dueling, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. As a Ministry official, he was often sent on sensitive missions like apprehending Dumbledore and serving as the Muggle Prime Minister's bodyguard.

After the Second War, Neville joined the Aurors alongside Harry and Ron in order to rebuild Wizarding society and the Ministry of Magic. Sometime after, he decided to quit this job and applied to become Hogwarts' newest Herbology professor, a role he excelled in as he'd always enjoyed the subject.

Before becoming an Auror, Cerberus Langarm worked as an Officer in the Magical Law Squad often delivering information and aiding in magical beast-related situations. An unknown amount of time later, he applied to the Auror Office, trained with other recruits, and was then officially assigned to work under Harry Potter, the Head of the department.

Despite her clumsiness, Nymphadora Tonks was a very reliable Auror with many valuable talents. Her innate skill as a Metamorphmagus allowed her to physically change her appearance at will, a trait that she used multiple times while working undercover for the Order of the Phoenix. These abilities made her excellent at concealment and disguise.

The Harry Potter franchise introduced fans to a fleshed-out magical world, with class disparity, a corrupt government, and Dark wizards using their abilities for nefarious reasons. To combat the latter, the Ministry of Magic employed Aurors, Dark wizard catchers who were extraordinarily skilled in dueling, detective work, and planning.

Sometime after Neville's birth, Frank and Alice were kidnapped and tortured by a group of Death Eaters that included Barty Crouch, Jr. and Bellatrix Lestrange. This painful incident permanently damaged their mental capabilities, and they had to be interned in a ward at the magical hospital, St. Mungo's.

Helmut was also present for The Walk of Qilin, a ceremony in Bhutan where Grindelwald was also present. In his battles with the anti-Grindelwald movement, Helmut demonstrated his outstanding dueling skills and his ability to cast a variety of spells non-verbally.

In Order of the Phoenix, Dawlish was one of two Aurors sent to escort Dumbledore to Azkaban for defying the Ministry and supposedly creating Dumbledore's Army. Despite his expertise in martial magic, however, he was easily subdued by Dumbledore, who knocked Dawlish out with a Stunning spell and then escaped.

Born in Ireland in the early 1600s, Webster Boot moved to the United States with his entire family when he was a child. After losing his parents to a magical beast attack, he and his older brother moved in with Isolt Sayre and James Steward, and later helped them found Ilvermorny, the American Wizarding school. He's also credited with creating Wampus House in the school.

The Harry Potter series has more outstanding Slytherins than the movies would tell you, such as Andromeda Black, Astoria Greengrass, and even Merlin.

Though Scrimgeour never had a good relationship with Harry—often getting into arguments with him during their acquaintance—he remained quiet about Harry's whereabouts while under Voldemort's torture. Scrimgeour supposedly fought the Dark Lord before eventually dying at his hands.

When Neville was a Hogwarts student, he wasn't particularly gifted at academics or practical magic mostly due to his own insecurities. After joining Dumbledore's Army, however, he learned how to produce a Patronus, duel others stronger than himself, and even gained the leadership skills necessary to front their organization when the Golden Trio didn't return to school.

Shortly after Voldemort's defeat, Ron followed Harry and Neville to become an Auror at the Ministry of Magic. During his time at Hogwarts, Ron was skilled enough to produce a corporeal Patronus, which took the form of a Jack Russell Terrier, and to survive multiple encounters with Death Eaters.

Despite all the greatness of the Harry Potter universe, there are some head-scratching plot holes found throughout the series.

One of the best Aurors of the mid-1990s, John Dawlish was a capable wizard with vast experience in catching Dark wizards. Unlike most of the Aurors in the series, he was a firm Ministry of Magic supporter and often served as a bodyguard for Cornelius Fudge while he was in office.

Introduced in the new Hogwarts Legacy, Aesop Sharp attended Hogwarts as a Slytherin for seven years before graduating and training to become an Auror with the British Ministry of Magic. Despite his exceptional skills, he sustained a severe injury while on a mission and eventually decided to retire instead of taking on a desk job.

Harry's inherent leadership, detective skills, and magical mastery earned him the position of Head Auror at the age of 26, making him the youngest person ever appointed as leader of the Auror Office. Years later, he was also appointed the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Throughout Harry Potter, many characters are either introduced as Aurors or shown to have the potential to battle some of the most dangerous wizards and witches of the Wizarding World. Their talents and strengths made them some of the most accomplished characters in the series and earned them the respect of their peers.

After graduating from Ilvermorny, Tina trained to become an Auror at MACUSA, the American equivalent of the Ministry of Magic. She was a highly proficient Auror and her courageous personality was instrumental in making her such an outstanding Dark wizard catcher. Tina always stood up for what was right, so her proficiency as an Auror wasn't surprising.

After the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry chose to not return for his seventh year at Hogwarts and instead began training to become an Auror. Even before catching Dark wizards for a living, however, he already exceeded expectations by mastering difficult spells at a young age, instructing others at defensive magic, and defeating the most powerful Dark wizard of all time.

In battle, Moody was surprisingly swift and powerful, capable of dueling two opponents at once and using his magical prosthetics to his advantage. He was able to cast spells wandlessly and nonverbally with his walking stick and see through powerful enchantments with his magical eye.
