If you look on the outside of each controller, there is an eject symbol embossed on the handgrip. The arrow indicates the direction you need to slide the cover, and once it is removed, voila. There isn't a specific type that is required - any brand will work. You may find that rechargeable AA batteries work out as a smart investment. While the initial cost may be higher, the fact that you don't have to buy new ones every time they die could actually work out cheaper in the long run.
