If any of these areas fail to meet these requirements, the TASER should not be used.  The TASER should be returned to the unit armor for service.

Although it is the responsibility of the individual to ensure the TASER is in good working order before shift, each facility shall develop an item-specific checklist.  Each checklist should list what is to be inspected, how each particular item is to be inspected, and whether the item is in good working order.

The TASER is a less lethal hand held electronic immobilization device used for controlling assaultive/high risk persons.  The purpose of this device is to facilitate a safe and effective response in order to minimize injury to suspects and deputies.

Your AFSS submission requires you to certify that all fire safety measures are up to code. The 90-day period refers to the time before your AFSS due date when annual inspections can occur. Within this timeframe, any non-compliance issues must be rectified, and all required registers, including those for passive fire stopping and fire dampers, must be completed to ensure AFSS certification. This window is critical for ensuring all measures are in place for timely compliance.  For more information about how to prevent getting caught in the crossfire of this new legislation, schedule a consultation with our experts and we'll help you understand this new law.

🔥Are you prepared for the changes coming for your building? 🔥 Starting Feb 13, 2025, Passive Fire Stopping and Fire Damper Registers are mandatory for buildings with these measures listed on their AFSS. Without these registers, your Annual Fire Safety Statement can not be signed, leading to non-compliance and penalties. Maximize Safety with Fire Hose Reels from Control Fire Protection Fire hose reels are an indispensable component of any building's fire safety strategy, providing an essential tool for firefighting. These systems ensure an uninterrupted water supply, enabling effective fire suppression efforts against Class A fires, which involve common combustibles such as wood, paper, and textiles. Key benefits of installing fire hose reels include: ➡️ Uninterrupted Water Supply: Ensures a steady flow of water, essential for continuous firefighting. ➡️ Protection from Heat: The spray from fire hose reels forms a protective barrier against radiant heat, allowing safer operations. ➡️ Safe Operation Distance: Enables operation from at least 4 meters away from the fire, providing greater safety compared to the 2-meter range of standard fire extinguishers. ➡️ Greater Fire Extinguishing Capability: Capable of extinguishing fires up to 10 times larger than those manageable by fire extinguishers alone. Starting 13 February 2025, amendments under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 will introduce new requirements aimed at improving fire safety in NSW buildings, reducing risks to life, property damage, and fire safety defects. For apartment and buildings in NSW, this means changes in how to obtain an annual fire safety statements (AFSS). The updated regulations now require mandatory compliance with Australian Standard AS1851-2012 for fire protection system maintenance, unless otherwise covered by an approved performance solution. Learn more about these changes and what you need to do to stay compliant.

This newsletter will provide guidance and serve as a reminder on how to properly check function, spark, battery, and expiration dates on cartridges for proper use of the  electronic immobilization device TASER.

Note: The TASER should be cycled for the full five seconds ONCE per day.  During the other two spark tests, the TASER should be cycled on and off for one to two seconds to preserve the battery.

How often should your fire sprinkler system and its components be tested according to AS1851? Quarterly: Test all mechanical devices within the sprinkler system. Twice a Year: Test vane and pressure switch devices. Annually: Conduct a comprehensive test of the fire sprinkler system, including low flow, alarm, and trip tests. Lifespan and Testing Schedules for Various Parts: Every 5 Years: Test and/or replace gauges, sprinklers exposed to high temperatures, and those in harsh environments. Every 10 Years: Test and/or replace dry sprinklers. Fast-Response Sprinklers: Test after 20 years, then every 10 years. Standard Response Sprinklers: Test after 50 years, then every 10 years.
