Lenticular Free-Form Lenses will result in the thinnest lens possible. This is often the only lens choice available for very high prescriptions.

Quartz UVtransmission

Lenticular means the correction in the lens does not extend all the way to the outer edge of the lens. Since most people can’t see this part of the lens this has been a non-issue. This results in a lens that is about 50% - 70% thinner than a lens where the prescription extends all the way to the edge. See the illustration for an example of a lenticular lens.

IRFused Silica

(amorphous silicon dioxide) is produced synthetically from high purity silicon by flame hydrolysis. It differs by its high UV-transmittance from natural Fused Silica, molten from crystalline quartz.

We guarantee that the power in these lenses will be exactly what you ordered.  This is important, because returns are more restricted with these lenses.

UVFused Silica

LASEROPTIK often uses SQ0, SQ1 (former Q0, Q1, Q2), Suprasil® 1+2, Corning 7980® or NIFS-U®. In the UV-range we recommend to use optimized materials like SQ0 / SQ1 E-193 or E-248 for lowest losses. Other materials can be supplied as well.

IR absorption of FS is caused by OH-chemical bond content, most relevant at wavelengths near the water absorption band at 2.7 µm but also critical at 940 nm. Reduction in OH can be assured by melting high quality quartz or special manufacturing techniques, but mostly at the sacrifice of UV transmittance.A common material is Infrasil®. For high power applications, especially in the range of the OH-waterbands we recommend a material with lowest OH-content, like Corning 7979®, Suprasil® 300 or Suprasil® 3001 + 3002.

UV-FS offers:• broad transmission range• low thermal expansion coefficient, providing high thermal stability and resistance to thermal shocks• thermal operating range up to 800 °C• great hardness and resistance against scratches• very high resistance to radiation darkening• absence of bubbles and impurities

To order these prescription lenses in a frame on our site, you will need to choose which frame you want from the 'Non-Prescription Sunglasses' under  the 'Sunglasses' menu item on the top of our site. Do not shop from the 'Prescription Sunglasses' option, as it will default to a different type of lens that is not lenticular. Just find the frame color you want with the cheapest price and we will replace the less expensive non-prescription lenses with the lenticular lenses you order on this page. You may also opt to send in sunglasses you already own to be fitted with lenticular prescription lenses. If you have any questions, please call us, we're here to help.

There is a wide range of different substrate materials available, varying in homogeneity, grades of laser induced fluorescence and content of bubbles, inclusions and OH.
