A laser beam expander is designed to increase the diameter of a collimated output beam. It is used in applications such as laser scanning, interferometer, and remote sensing. BET-WC Series water cool beam expanders are developed for even higher power (>200W) CO2 lasers with consistency in outer dimension and water pipe connection.

Connect the laser: Connect the laser source to the input port of the beam expander. Ensure that the laser is properly focused and aligned.

What makes our beam expander products unique is the broad wavelength input that we carry and the customization services that we provide for customers who need specific requirements in their industrial and production line. The parameters that we are able to provide customization include wavelength-specific filtering, anti-reflection coating, magnification factor selection, input/output clear aperture, and maximum beam intensity.

UniBET series beam expanders are developed for higher power (>100w) CO2 laser without water cool. It has a consistent outer dimension and connecting thread M30x1.

Laser beam expanders are commonly used in laser machining, laser cutting, and laser marking applications, where a precise and focused laser beam is required. They can also be used in scientific research, such as in laser spectroscopy or microscopy.

Zoom Beam Expander accounts for the short-fall of fixed beam expander by allowing the user to tune manually to the required magnification factor, depending on various processes that is required. These beam expanders are also designed for high power applications where magnification adjustments may be required. The concept of zoom beam expander works on the internal translation stages and focusing mechanisms to adjust and account for the changes in magnification continuously. It also takes laser divergence into consideration and performs relative adjustments without affecting the overall housing length.

MiniBET series are smaller in size, all have the same external diameter of 20mm, total range ranging from around 28mm to 70mm only. Thread M16x0.75 and it is widely applied in a compact CO2 laser system.

Use the expanded beam: Once the beam expander is properly set up, use the expanded beam for your desired application, such as laser cutting, welding, or marking.

A laser beam expander is an optical device used to increase the diameter of a laser beam. The purpose of a beam expander is to reduce the divergence of the laser beam, which is the tendency of the beam to spread out as it travels. By increasing the diameter of the beam, the beam expander reduces the divergence, allowing the beam to travel further without spreading out too much.

Check the beam profile: Use a beam profiler or other measuring tool to check the spatial profile and divergence of the expanded beam. Adjust the beam expander as necessary to achieve the desired beam quality.

Set up the laser beam expander: Mount the laser beam expander onto a stable platform or optical bench. Make sure the input and output ports are properly aligned and secured.

A typical laser beam expander consists of two lenses placed a certain distance apart, with the distance between the lenses being equal to the sum of their focal lengths. The first lens diverges the laser beam to a larger diameter, and the second lens then collimates the enlarged beam to be parallel. The amount of expansion is determined by the ratio of the focal lengths of the two lenses.

Ronar-Smith® beam expanders demand the highest quality in beam broadening and collimation without compromising on the expanded beam quality. We value safety as much as we do and you can be assured that all our beam expanders are subjected to rigorous testing prior to market sales. All our fixed and zoom beam expanders are telescopic by nature and require a collimated beam input while delivering an expanded collimated beam at the output.  *G type : Galilean design without internal focus

Beam expander in laser system development is utilized for calibrating various elements. The diameter of the laser beam at the laser system output is adapted to the required diameter at the input of the objective lens. The beam expander is also primarily used in laser-material processes. Fixed beam expanders are also designed for specific beam expansion applications such as laser engraving. They also feature anti-reflection coatings and high transmissivity to maximize the efficiency of the beam expansion and reduce losses. The disadvantage lies in the fixed magnification factor and applications that require tuning of the output beam size are unable to perform.

Alkor Technologies manufactures optical components made of the Infrared materials, crystals and Fused Silica. Our materials cover the entire spectral range from the UV through Far Infrared.

Adjust the beam expander: Depending on the type of beam expander, adjust the optical elements to expand or collimate the laser beam. Some beam expanders have adjustable lenses or mirrors, while others may require the use of fixed optics.

It’s important to note that laser safety should always be a top priority when working with lasers and laser beam expanders. Always wear appropriate protective eyewear and follow all safety guidelines and regulations.
