Scantrol is an independent supplier of monitoring and control systems to the modern marine and offshore industries. More about us
We mount a camera at the end of the gangway and a recognizable target on the landing platform. The vision system locates the target and assists the operator in positioning the gangway above the landing platform. Once the gangway is correctly positioned above the landing point, the vision system will monitor the gangway movement relative to the landing point and signal the operator when it is safe to land.
The R&D teams of Scantrol, Deep Vision and GVR are working together on developing a new Vision & Control platform. The work is well underway and the first products will be launched soon.
Even at a relatively low pressure, flammable gases, such as acetylene, butane, ethylene, hydrogen, methylamine, and vinyl chloride, can burn or explode when they are accidentally released from a broken or leaking valve or from a safety device.
Marine resources can be harvested sustainably through the introduction of new technologies and a change in attitudes. We aim to take part in this development by providing vision & control technology for marine research and commercial fisheries.

This is a system where vision and control work together to provide a safe, simple and reliable method for landing gangways from ship to platform or ship to ship without the need for expensive and complex 3D compensation.
Almost any part of a compressed-air system can be hazardous including the compressor, the storage tank, valves, regulators, and the line that moves the air to the point of use.
To address the issue of CO2 emissions, the maritime industry needs to increase the use of robotics and autonomous vessels.
By developing controls for autonomous launch and recovery of subsea survey equipment and machine learning-based vision systems, we intend to contribute to this transition.
Deep Vision has built up extensive experience with hardware and software design of subsea vision systems, and our team has proven its ability to deliver advanced vision technology for harsh subsea environments. Deep Vision shares offices with Scantrol.

The system will have an auto landing option. In auto landing mode, the motion is continuously monitored and compared to the characteristics of the gangway to determine the correct moment for landing safely.
Bringing modern vision and machine learning technology onboard vessels operating on the seven oceans is a challenging task that has been on Scantrol’s agenda for several years. Technology of this type is definitely required, but it needs to be developed and implemented with care to achieve the safety and reliability necessary for marine operations
Compressed air is a gas under more pressure than the air in the general environment. Compressed air is dangerous because – without proper personal protective equipment – it can damage any part of the human body.
We have set ourselves the goal of becoming an important player in this market, and a significant part of our R&D activities are directed towards this goal.
Scantrol's sister companies Deep Vision and Girona Vision Research are key partners in our vision & control strategy. The two companies are experts in vision technology and machine learning and work together to develop a subsea vision system that allows commercial fishermen to catch only legal fish while preventing the catch of illegal or undersized fish. The system is already in use within marine research, and commercial fishermen will soon be able to use the system.
If compressed air gets into the bloodstream, the result can be fatal. A pressure strong enough to dust or clean is strong enough to break the skin and penetrate the body. Even pressures as low as five to 10 pounds per square inch can cause an injury.
We have prepared ourselves by building up expertise in the sister companies Deep Vision and GVR, and we are now in the process of integrating our technologies into a common Vision & Control platform.
Girona Vision Research has a high level of expertise in subsea image processing and machine learning, and is located at the University of Girona Technology Park.
Scantrol is engaged in delivering control systems for unmanned surface vessels, and we have noticed a growing demand for more intelligent monitoring and control for this type of vessel.
Controls using information from the vision system for accurate positioning of harvesting equipment independent of vessel motion and for controlling the capacity of harvesting equipment.
In the offshore energy sector, it is likely that a number of large and expensive survey vessels can be replaced by unmanned surface vessels to carry out subsea mapping, inspection, and maintenance work.
We have achieved great progress in the development of our new Gangway Landing Assistant, and it will soon be ready for launch.
