Enhanced GFP (eGFP) is a weakly dimeric, green-emitting fluorescent protein. It is a derivative of GFP, first isolated from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria. This variant was developed in 1995 to allow for the practical use of GFPs in mammalian cells. It has an excitation peak at 488 nm and an emission peak at 513 nm.
