Ar coating

Another advantage of AR coating is that it will reduce halos and glares around bright objects at night (such as headlights of the incoming traffic), thus improving the night vision significantly.

Dielectric front surface mirrors are based on highly efficient interference-optical thin films. Such mirrors are vital components for a wide range of optical systems and are designed to reflect specific wavelengths of light or lasers with the highest efficiency. They are essential for applications where metallic coatings do not provide enough reflectivity. Unlike conventional metal-coated mirrors, dielectric mirrors consist of several layers of non-metallic materials. Each dielectric coating layer is chosen based on its refractive index to create a layer system that is selectively reflective at specific wavelengths to allow maximum performance. We make these mirrors using a special vapor-deposition process.

The reflection of laser beams with increased power levels is possible since the SHR's absorption is negligible in its nominal operating wavelength spectrum. Please contact our engineers for information about which lasers, laser beam power, and laser lines you can use our dielectric SHR mirrors for. Please provide your application's details, like wavelength, laser beam diameter, required damage threshold, continuous laser power, and other relevant information.

An additional highlight of our SHR mirror is its excellent thermal stability. The mirror can operate up to 350 °C thanks to its temperature-resistant, high-quality borosilicate substrate. The prerequisite for this is that the heating process is uniform and the possible temperature gradients across the mirror do not exceed the permissible physical limits.

Another interesting feature of our SHR mirror design is that it can separate the visible light from the infrared radiation of a light beam. It offers high optical transmissivity for wavelengths above the visible range of up to 2500 nm, allowing the SHR to also operate as an IR filter or dichroic beamsplitter. Some customers use the SHR mirror as a beam-combining optic for lasers with different VIS and IR wavelengths.

We also offer custom dielectric mirror designs in serial production quantities according to your detailed requirements. A customized coating design for polarized light, for which our dielectric SHR mirror is unspecified, is also possible with sufficient production quantities. Custom dielectric laser mirrors with increased optical flatness or ultra-high efficiency for a particular laser wavelength are also available on a per-coating-run basis. Moreover, polarization-optimized coatings are feasible in higher quantities, too. The polarization properties are often critical for laser optics, but are undefined for the standard dielectric SHR mirrors. Please send us your detailed coating inquiry if any of these details are critical for your application.

At LensOnUs, our high quality AR has even more coatings than usual that would provide extra benefits. These additional layers will make the lens more scratch-resistant, will block more UV radiations, and will make the lens harder to smudge and easier to clean (thanks to an extra hydrophobic coating).

Anti-Reflective (AR) Coatings are designed such that they would allow more light through, whereas a normal lens would reflect about 20% of the light hitting it. Not only this improves the optical quality of the lens, but it will make your lenses look better, since reflections off of normal lenses will make it harder for people to see your eyes.

Since an all-dielectric mirror shows angle-dependent reflection and limited optical bandwidth, such coatings are usually optimized for single spectral lines or a narrowband wavelength region. Moreover, dielectric mirror optics are often designed for only one or a small range of incident angles. Although they offer far higher reflection than standard metal mirror coatings, they typically have a much smaller reflection bandwidth. To combine the advantages of high and broadband reflectivity in one optic, we developed our SHR-mirror. The SHR coating features a reflection bandwidth wide enough for the entire visible spectrum, with very high reflection at an incidence angle of 45°.

All mirrors we manufacture are fabricated to individual dimensions to fit the customer's application perfectly. We are often faster with custom sizes than re-sellers can ship their catalog mirrors with fixed dimensions, making a shopping cart superfluous. If you are in the same time zone, you will receive a quote for your dielectric mirrors, usually within a few minutes.
