Switching regulated 5VDC power supplies, sometimes referred to as SMPS power supplies, switchers, or switched mode power supplies, regulate the 5VDC output voltage using a complex high frequency switching technique that employs pulse width modulation and feedback. Acopian switching regulated power supplies also employ extensive EMI filtering and shielding to attenuate both common and differential mode noise conducted to the line and load. Galvanic isolation is standard in our 5VDC switchers, affording our users input to output and output to ground isolation for maximum versatility. Defects in bulk calcite are characterized by bubbles ( presence of randomly scattered bubbles vary from relatively large to small sizes and fine bubble lines), striae ( streaks of sudden variation of refractive index which can be detected interferometrically ), optical inhomogeneity ( gradual variation of refractive index in bulk material ) and stress birefringence ( variation of birefringence in bulk material due to defective growth of the crystal ). These defects cause degradation of polarization and transmission loss due to scattering and absorption.

The Glan Thompson polarizer is made of two calcite prisms cemented together. Two types of Glan Thompsons are available. One is the standard form and the other is the long form. Their length to aperture ratios are 2.5 : 1 and 3.0 : 1 respectively. Glan Thompsons tend to have higher extinction ratio than air spaced polarizers. In the ultra violet spectrum, their transmission is limited by absorption in calcite as well as the cement layer. These polarizers can be used from about 350 to 2300 nm.
