Passive low-e coatings function best when on the third or fourth surface (furthest away from the sun), while solar control low-e coatings function best when on the lite closest to the sun, typically the second surface.
The Fractionated Erbium:YAG laser creates thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. This stimulates the production of new collagen, smoothing out wrinkles and resulting in firmer, more youthful skin. The depth of the laser energy can be adjusted to treat your specific skin concern.
In a standard double panel IG there are four potential surfaces to which coatings can be applied: the first (#1) surface faces outdoors, the second (#2) and third (#3) surfaces face each other inside the insulating glass unit and are separated by a peripheral spacer which creates an insulating air space, while the fourth (#4) surface faces directly indoors. Passive low-e coatings function best when on the third or fourth surface (furthest away from the sun), while solar control low-e coatings function best when on the lite closest to the sun, typically the second surface.
Anyway to the OP’s question, describe what you see, if you like list possible causes, try not to pin yourself down too far.
Early ablative lasers removed the entire surface of the skin, resulting in healing times of several weeks. The Fractionated ablative Erbium:YAG laser treats narrow columns of the skin, allowing rapid healing from the intact surrounding skin within just a few days.
What doesYAGlaser stand for
The Fractionated Erbium:YAG laser achieves excellent resurfacing results with minimal recovery time. It is a fractional ablative laser that is able to effectively treat wrinkles, skin laxity, and pigmentation in patients of all skin types. Fractionated Erbium:YAG laser is the gold standard treatment for acne and surgical scars.
Results can be seen within a few weeks of your treatment. The quality of your skin will continue to gradually improve for 6 months following your treatment as new collagen and elastin are produced.

YAGlaser uses in Ophthalmology
Fractionated Erbium:YAG laser is an ablative laser that creates columns of micro thermal zones in the skin. This removes damaged tissue and initiates collagen production to resolve a number of complexion issues, including fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, discolouration and scarring.
Lower end replacement windows may only have a 3-5 yr manufacturers warranty. I do include it in the report, but I use my judgement on classifying it.
Prior to your treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied for 45-60 minutes. Most patients are able to tolerate the treatment with topical numbing, cooling, and Tylenol and/or Advil, but more aggressive pain management may be used.
A computer-guided scanning system ensures that the Fractionated Erbium:YAG laser treatment is evenly applied over the surface of your skin.
However, with these rainbow colored windows, a lot of times you can only see it from the outside and can not see it or barely see it from the inside. So the discoloration doesn’t obstruct the view of occupants from the inside to the exterior, but is a cosmetic issue when viewed from the outside.
Fractionated Erbium:YAG therapy produces long-lasting results. However, ongoing aging and sun exposure mean that additional treatments will be necessary to maintain your results.
I call it out as a defect and recommend replacement, though some people may consider it cosmetic. IMO, nobody wants thermal seal failure in their home and they are expensive to replace.
The Fraxel laser and Fractionated Erbium:YAG laser are manufactured by two different companies. While both deliver fractionated thermal energy to the skin, Fraxel is a CO2 laser while Fractionated Erbium:YAG is an erbium:YAG laser. Fractionated Erbium:YAG also penetrates the skin at a deeper layer than Fraxel, therefore it can resolve more severe complexion issues.

Fractionated Erbium:YAG has been extensively studied and researched to prove its safety. The technology has been proven to be effective in resolving a variety of skin issues and is suitable for all skin types and shades.
The Fractionated Erbium:YAG laser creates microscopic “channels” in your skin. This triggers the wound healing response and stimulates fibroblast activity, which in turn leads to the production of new collagen and elastin. As we age, we lose about 1% of the collagen in our skin per year. Stimulation of new collagen production is the key to reversing the signs of skin aging.

Consider: the low-e coating is on different layers, for windows sold in different climates. It’s hard to determine which layer is bad. Anyway to the OP’s question, describe what you see, if you like list possible causes, try not to pin yourself down too far.
I inspected a home with windows that appeared to have factory UV protection and it’s breaking down. Looks similar to broken seals, but no moisture. Any thoughts on how to word this and is it considered a maintenance/minor or a major item?
It can take about 3-5 days for the skin to heal. Results can be seen a few weeks after treatment, and gradually improve over 6 months.

The Inspector recommends that before the expiration of your Inspection Objection Deadline you consult with a qualified contractor to discuss options and costs for repair or replacement. Replacement is more common.”

The recovery time for this procedure is 3-7 days with improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, scars and sun damage gradually occurring over 6 months post-treatment. A series of at least 3 treatments is recommended.
All of which fall into the window defect category in my opinion. They do not need further evaluation or repair, I recommend replacement. It’s up to the client to follow thru.
Interesting. But from what I understand, the low-e coating is on the inner pane(s) and would likely be impervious to chemicals. If your glass was etched by chemicals and duplicated that rainbow effect that would be even more interesting.
Problems afterYAGlaser capsulotomy
After your Fractionated Erbium:YAG treatment, most patients experience a “sunburn”-like sensation. There is often redness and some pinpoint bleeding. Your dermatologist will have specific recovery instructions for you, including strict avoidance of sun exposure.
Here is a post from another forum discussing this. It’s a manufacturing problem and potentially blown seal. I’ve seen multiple houses in a subdivision have this rainbow coloring.
Once your consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists is complete, your Fractionated Erbium:YAG session will be scheduled. For most patients, these sessions will last somewhere between 60-90 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated.

Thank you for that information. Though 1st layer coatings exist, passive and solar low-e are typically 2nd surface on. Bryce must have a 1st surface coating if the coating was damaged by an exterior chemical wipe.
