The company stated that the new system allows for improved covered-graft apposition in tightly curved aortas and greater expansion control in larger-diameter anatomies during the treatment of complex thoracic aortic aneurysms. Bolton's Relay and Relay NBS endovascular stent grafts are indicated for the treatment of main thoracic aortic pathologies such as aneurysms, penetrating ulcers, pseudoaneurysms, and intramural hematomas in adult patients.

The Relay NBS device has incorporated key design changes to reduce the potential for both of these complications that can occur in this challenging anatomy such as “bird beak” gapping in which the proximal end of the stent fails to lay flat against the inner curvature of the aortic arch and graft retroflex or in-fold toward its inner curvature during deployment.
