An electric meter is a device used to measure the electrical energy usage of a home, building, or other electrically powered device. They are used in order to provide accurate billing to customers.[2]

An electric meter seems complicated with all of those spinning dials each rotating in opposite directions, however it isn't too difficult once the secret is revealed. The following video provides an excellent guideline on how to read an electric meter, which is summarized below.

I've had my Mighty Bright magnifier light for over a year. I knew my brother-in-law would love it for Father's Day since he is a crossword puzzle enthusiast! Great product, many uses, perfect, unique gift!

I have a number of these lights and they are invaluable when trying to read small print on recipes or to magnify a small object that isn't easily visible.

The number given by the meter is measuring the electrical energy used (in kilowatt-hours, unless otherwise stated on the meter).

I have used these magnifier glasses for years, each one last me about a year before they wear out, I constantly use them every day and evening. After looking for the last 12 years of using these, they are the only ones I found that consistently works in last for a long period of time. they easily fit in my shirt pocket.

After trying many brands, I like that they use regular AAA batteries, work well and are inexpensive enough to put in many places and throw away when abused or damaged.

I've had these for several years. One button on the side came off and it was difficult to use so, I ordered more. The light and inset magnifier make a huge difference

Digital meters simply state the number of kWh of electricity have been used. It's important to note that neither the digital nor the analog meters reset at the beginning of the month, the power company subtracts off the start from the end to figure out how much to bill the household. Digital meters are often able to communicate directly with the power company, reducing the need for people to walk around neighbourhoods looking at everyone's meters.

I got three pop up magnifies for people I know based on personal experience. I have owned one for several years and it never ceases to amaze me how it even survived living in my purse. It is a quality built, reliable tool. Thank you. Also, we couldn't believe how fast the delivery was

Example: if the numbers from the meter in the following order from right to left - 1, 3, 4, 2 - then 2431 kWh have been used. Take a look at the meter in Figure 1 (click to expand) and try to read it (it reads 2211 kWh).

Analog electric meters, like the one seen in figure 1, make use of various coils and gears, however its operation can be simplified to that of an electric motor. The electric current moving through the coils produces changing magnetic fields in which a metal disc responds to. With the help of a permanent magnet, the disc spins proportional to how much electricity is used. Its motion rotates gears which finally show the reading on a clock-like dial.

So far this is a GREAT lighted magnifying glass. I love the size and the clarity of the lens as well as the placement of the light source. I also like the fact that the light does not go on automatically every time I pop out the lens for use. I have the choice to turn on the light or to leave it off. That will help to extend the battery life.

The magnifier's encasement is spring-loaded: squeeze the side buttons once to extend the magnifier, and a second time to turn on the light.

Excellent pop up magnifying glass, which comes in very handy for viewing small print and such. I have bought several of these, and always have them handy for when I need them.
