Retarders, also known as the 4th brake, are an ideal and cost-effective deceleration system. TBK has developed retarders as part of our ongoing pursuit for enhanced driving safety. As retarders are noncontact systems, they create no physical wear, making them an ideal auxiliary braking system. Our development of retarders began in the 1960’s. Today, buses, trucks, and other heavy-duty vehicles are equipped with our retarders. By drawing on our wealth of expertise accumulated over time, we developed our current range of electromagnetic/electronically controlled retarders (Eddytarder), which are favored by many customers.

Our retarders are mounted directly onto the drive shaft. Thus, they do not require any engine modifications. As they operate friction-free, there is also no need for maintenance.
