The Laser output power must be stable especially in safety reason. But the Laser power is related to the Junction Temperature (Tj) of the LD. It means that as the different Tj, the Laser power will be increased or decreased. An APC (automatic power control) circuit is used to compensate the varying Laser output power to constant. As shown in the picture, The principle of the APC circuit is monitoring portion of the laser light from the LD by the built-in PD and real-time feedback to control the laser output power constant and safety.

488nm, 120mW Blue OPSL Source System Overview This plug-and-play laser source leverages Coherent's extensive optically-pumped semiconductor (OPSL) technology to deliver the highest quality laser diode light, with best-in-class reliability and performance. The blue 488nm fiber-coupled OPSL source system is available at 15mW, 40mW, 60mW, 80mW, and 120mW ex-fiber output power. For applications requiring high-speed modulation capability, an OBIS LX Blue Laser Diode system is available. The OBIS Series laser source systems cover the wavelength spectrum from 375nm (Ultraviolet) to 980nm (near-Infrared), and are perfect for flow cytometry and fluorescence spectroscopy applications. Complete Turn-Key Blue OPSL Laser Source System The complete OBIS system includes: the laser head and remote controller, power supply, interconnect cable, and the output fiber with the high-reliability extended-life output interface. The fiber output face is angled at 8º to prevent back-reflection, and since it designed for ultra high reliability, it is not compatible with standard FC/APC fiber connectors. The laser system is controlled remotely via USB or RS232, and the PC control software is included. The OBIS system is remarkably simple to set up on the bench top: connect the power cable, the I/O cable from the controller to the laser head, and the USB cable from the controller to the computer. The OBIS system is designed with safety features to ensure a long operating lifetime, and to includes safety features to protect the user. The key switch prevents unauthorized use, and the interlock connection allows a safety switch to be wired. The OBIS remote controller includes a front panel Fault indicator, as well as a Laser Ready and Laser On indicators. An output is provided for driving a cooling fan, and for simplified temperature stabilization the OBIS laser head can be mounted to the available OBIS fan-heatsink. Operating Flexibility with Multiple Modulation Modes The OBIS laser system can be operated in CW mode, or modulated in multiple modes: analog signals, digital signals, and combined analog/digital signals. Wide Selection of OBIS Laser Source Systems The turn-key OBIS laser sources are available in a range of wavelengths and output powers, with fiber-coupled or free-space output, and multiple sources can be simultaneously operated from a single computer. When application requirements change, different wavelength laser heads are readily interchanged. A range of OBIS-specific accessories are available: two six-laser controller models for OEM and benchtop applications, a machined heatsink with integrated cooling fan, and an fully-integrated mounting and control system that incorporates laser controllers, modulation inputs, and thermal management for up to five different OBIS laser heads.
