Christian Strob served as the first Robert Bosch Cultural Manager in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He spent his three years term from 2011 to 2014 at the German Consulate General. In his capacity as Cultural Manager he sucessfully established a variety of well received projects in the spheres of youth culture, women empowerment, civil society and human rights. Through his efforts he made a substantial contribution to the Robert Bosch Cultural Managers Program, which aims at building a network of young professionals and fostering international dialogue and understanding. Prior to this posting, Chrisitan Strob worked at the Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. From 2007 to 2009 he joined the team at the office of information and communication. He was tasked, in particular, to support and coordinate the research and public relations initiative “Europe in the Middle East – The Middle East in Europe”. Through scientific workshops and public panel discussions, the initiative created awareness concerning the diversity of Middle Eastern cultures and the legacy, shared between Europe and the Arab World. Christian Strob completed his graduate studies in 2010 at the Free University of Berlin. Covering the fields of Islamic studies, political science, and cultural anthropology, he achieved the overall degree excellent. In his Master’s thesis, supervised by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gudrun Krämer, he addressed the challenges Islamic law is facing in modern contexts. The title reads: „Adapting Islamic law."
