We have electrons in our new linear accelerator! Our staff have been working around the clock to prepare our new equipment and this is a major milestone in the #newlinac project. This image shows our equipment detecting the first bunch of electrons generated from our new electron source. Our team then worked to get electron bunches further and further down parts of our linac. They successfully got a 42 mega electron volt (MeV) beam all the way to the end of the linac. This moment was duly celebrated by our staff in the control room! The next step is to get an electron beam with more energy (specifically, 250 MeV). We are happy to be that much closer to operating our synchrotron once more.
